  1. 16. Non-linear behavior of bio-based composite : characterization and modeling

    Författare :Liva Rozite; Markus Stommel; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Polymera konstruktionsmaterial; Polymeric Composite Materials;

    Sammanfattning : The development and application of bio-based composite materials have been frequently studied. Most of the work is done on quasi-static performance of these materials. However, these composites are highly non-linear therefore there is need for investigation of their viscelastic and viscoplastic behavior. LÄS MER

  2. 17. 3D Magnetic Photonic Crystals : Synthesis and Characterization

    Författare :Mei Fang; K.Venkat Rao; Lyubov Belova; Rajeev Ahuja; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; magnetic photonic crystals; photonic band gaps; Fe3O4 nanoparticles; silica; Optical physics; Optisk fysik; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents the synthesis methods and the characterizations of magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles, silica spheres with Fe3O4 nanoparticles embedded, and three dimensional magnetic photonic crystals (MPCs) prepared from the spheres. The structure, material composition, magnetic and optical properties, photonic band gaps (PBGs), as well as how these properties depend on the concentration of the magnetic nanoparticles, are investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID), Faraday rotation (FR) and optical spectrophotometers. 3. 18. Micromechanical Behavior of Fiber Networks

    Författare :Svetlana Borodulina; Mikael Nygårds; Artem Kulachenko; Susanne Heyden; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Network simulation; Mechanical properties; Fibers; Bonds; Paper properties; Damage; Microfibril angle; Torsion;

    Sammanfattning : Paper is used in a wide range of applications, each of which has specific requirements on mechanical and surface properties. The role of paper strength on paper performance is still not well understood. This work addresses the mechanical properties of paper by utilizing fiber network simulation and consists of two parts. 4. 19. Inorganic and organic polymer-grafted nanoparticles : their nanocomposites and characterization

    Författare :Carmen Cobo Sanchez; Eva Malmström; Henrik Hillborg; Anna Barros Timmons; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Si-ATRP; ATRP; polyelectrolytes; rGO; aluminium oxide; silica; CNF; CNC; PCL; LDPE; EBA; nanocomposites; matrix-free; extrusion; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Sammanfattning : Nanocomposites (NCs) have been widely studied in the past decades due to the promising properties that nanoparticles (NPs) offer to a polymer matrix, such as increased thermal stability and non-linear electrical resistivity. It has also been shown that the interphase between the two components is the key to achieving the desired improvements. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : To fulfill the United Nations’ 17 sustainable development goals, there is a need to transition from a petroleum-based society toward a more sustainable one which requires new solutions and the production of materials, chemicals, and energy from renewable resources. Using side-stream products from industries to produce value-added products will be economically beneficial. LÄS MER
