6. Hyperpolarized Nuclei for NMR Imaging and Spectroscopy – Methodology and model studies of lung and vascular function
Sammanfattning : Based on the principle of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) are widely used methods in medical diagnostic imaging and biological research. Clinical MRI has been restricted to imaging of protons, for reasons of sensitivity. LÄS MER
7. Experimental magnetic resonance imaging modalities as tools to evaluate brain function, structure and networks : exercise and cocaine induced adaptations
Sammanfattning : Psychiatric disease is common, costly and globally spread. Currently there are few efficient treatments that help patients to be remitted to a high degree. There is a need for improvement of robust objective diagnostic markers that can help the physicians to diagnose, follow-up or monitor treatment schedules. LÄS MER
8. Analysis and development of strategies for magnetic resonance functional neuroimaging
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on strategies for oxygenation-sensitive MRI that are designed to measure alterations in brain physiology induced by changes in neuronal activity. In a first study, it was shown that the temporal evolution of BOLD MRI signal changes in response to both brief and sustained visual activation are equally well visible in FLASH and EPI recordings. 9. High-resolution diffusion-weighted brain MRI under motion
Sammanfattning : Magnetic resonance imaging is one of the fastest developing medical imaging techniques. It provides excellent soft tissue contrast and has been a leading tool for neuroradiology and neuroscience research over the last decades. One of the possible MR imaging contrasts is the ability to visualize diffusion processes. LÄS MER
10. Development of radiofrequency pulses for fast and motion-robust brain MRI
Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on three projects and the three scientific articles that were the result of each project. Each project deals with various kinds of technical software development in the field of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The projects are in many ways very different, encompassing several acquisition and reconstruction strategies. LÄS MER
