21. Application of fast backprojection techniques for some inverse problems of integral geometry
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we study some mathematical inverse problems concerning the determination of a function from circular averages, which appear in certain radar applications, and the determination of a function from its line integrals, which appear in the well known problem of computerized tomographic imaging (CT). The thesis is divided into three parts. LÄS MER
22. Mesoscopic thin film superconductors - A computational framework
Sammanfattning : Motivated by experiments on superconductors in the microscopic regime and the realization of small superconducting devices such as qubits, we initiate a computational project in the form of a numerical simulation package to model and predict the behavior of these type of systems. It is a multidisciplinary endeavor in that it employs theory, computational science, software design, and to some extent new visualization techniques. LÄS MER
23. Robust Water Balance Modeling with Uncertain Discharge and Precipitation Data : Computational Geometry as a New Tool
Sammanfattning : Models are important tools for understanding the hydrological processes that govern water transport in the landscape and for prediction at times and places where no observations are available. The degree of trust placed on models, however, should not exceed the quality of the data they are fed with. LÄS MER
24. Numerical Modelling of Dissolved Air Flotation
Sammanfattning : Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF), a well-established treatment method for water containing e.g. dissolved organic matter and Cryptosporidium, has previously been examined experimentally. However, most measuring techniques still suffer from disturbances from air bubbles and intrusion of the measuring equipment into the flow. LÄS MER
25. Adaptive Finite Element Methods for Fluid Structure Interaction Problems with Applications to Human Phonation
Sammanfattning : This work presents a unified framework for numerical solution of Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI) and acoustics problems with focus on human phonation. The Finite Element Method is employed for numerical investigation of partial differential equations that model conservation of momentum and mass. LÄS MER
