  1. 11. Imagining the Organic City : Modern Tropes of Organization

    Författare :Meike Schalk; Kenneth Olwig; Sven Olov Wallenstein; Helena Mattsson; M Christine Boyer; Faculty of Landscape Architecture Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences SLU Alnarp; []
    Nyckelord :organic; organism; types; evolution; city; society; biology; Patrick Geddes; urban design; metabolism; organization;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis examines three ’organic tropes’ of modern architecture and urban design, addressing different crucial moments of change within modernist discourse. Attention is focused on the institutionalization of ‘town planning’ at the turn of the last century; the shift during the post-war years; and the beginning of urban debate in Japan during the early 1960s. 2. 12. From Parasitoids to Gall Inducers and Inquilines : Morphological Evolution in Cynipoid Wasps

    Författare :Hege Vårdal; Fredrik Ronquist; Göran Sahlén; Ulf Jondelius; Nunzio Isidoro; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; gall inducer; parasitoid; inquiline; gall induction; morphology; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : One of the large lineages of parasitic wasps, the Cynipoidea, exhibits three distinctly different life modes. Slightly more than half of the about 3000 species are parasitoids in insect larvae, whereas the remaining species are associated with plants, either as gall inducers or as inquilines (guests feeding on plant tissue in galls). 3. 13. Genetic Adaptation and Speciation in Darwin’s Finches and Atlantic Herring

    Författare :Fan Han; Leif Andersson; Kjetill Sigurd Jakobsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Darwin s finches; Atlantic herring; Population genetics; Evolution; Ecological adaptation; Speciation; Biologi med inriktning mot zooekologi; Biology with specialization in Animal Ecology; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik;

    Sammanfattning : Natural selection acts on existing genetic variation to drive genetic adaptation of organisms to various ecological niches. Interaction between closely related populations, through processes such as competition and hybridization, may either lead to their divergence or population fusion, which has consequences for adaptation and the formation of species. 4. 14. On the Winds of Carbon Stars and the Origin of Carbon : A Theoretical Study

    Författare :Lars Mattsson; Susanne Höfner; Nils Bergvall; Kjell Olofsson; Martin Groenewegen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; AGB stars; carbon stars; mass loss; stellar winds; circumstellar matter; cosmic dust; stellar evolution; nucleosynthesis; galactic chemical evolution; Astronomy and astrophysics; Astronomi och astrofysik; Astronomy; Astronomi; Fysik; Physics;

    Sammanfattning : Carbon is the basis for life, as we know it, but its origin is still largely unclear. Carbon-rich Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB) stars (carbon stars) play an important rôle in the cosmic matter cycle and may contribute most of the carbon in the Galaxy. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Single-cell RNA sequencing as a tool to study panarthropod evolution

    Författare :Brenda Irene Medina Jimenez; Ralf Janssen; Graham Budd; Tatjana Haitina; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Single-cell RNA sequencing; EvoDevo; gene expression; tissue dissociation; cell capture; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylärbiologi; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär evolution; Biology with specialization in Molecular Evolution;

    Sammanfattning : Panarthropoda is a monophyletic group comprised of arthropods and lobopods, molting animals with a segmented body, paired appendages, dorsal brain, and ventral nerve cords. Evolutionary Developmental Biology (EvoDevo) is an interdisciplinary field that seeks to understand how changes in development form the basis for variations in morphology and phenotypic evolution, including the genetic network underlying these processes.
