6. Environmental assessment of incinerator residue utilisation
Sammanfattning : In Sweden, utilisation of incinerator residues outside disposal areas is restricted by environmental concerns, as such residues commonly contain greater amounts of potentially toxic trace elements than the natural materials they replace. On the other hand, utilisation can also provide environmental benefits by decreasing the need for landfill and reducing raw material extraction. LÄS MER
7. Mechanical Properties of Residues as Unbound Road Materials - experimental tests on MSWI bottom ash, crushed concrete and blast furnace slag
Sammanfattning : For recycled aggregates and industrial by-products to beused correctly in road construction, it is necessary to knowtheir properties. Existing material specifications and testmethods for aggregates used in Sweden and in many othercountries are indirect and are based on empiricism. LÄS MER
8. Characterisation of organic materials from incineration residues
Sammanfattning : The organic material present in incineration residues has been examined. Water leachable organic material was characterised and classified into hydrophilic and hydrophobic acids, neutrals and bases. Changes of the organic material during weathering were followed. LÄS MER
9. Environmental assessment of bottom ash pre-treated with zero valent iron
Sammanfattning : Bottom ash has similar properties as crushed rocks and gravel, andcould replace some of the 40 million tonnesof virgin material used for road constructions each year. However, results presented in the literature indicate thatthe leaching of e.g. Cr, Cu, Mo, Pb and Zn can cause athreat to the sur rounding environment if the materialis used as it is. 10. Role of soil organic matter for immobilisation of metals : treatment of leachate from MSWI bottom ashes
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the focus is laid on the ability of natural organic matter (OM) to serve as a metal stabilising agent. The metal contaminants investigated arise from the MSWI bottom ash leachate. Besides the high content of metals, elevated pH and salinity are characteristic for ash leachate that, in turn, can alter the functionality of OM. LÄS MER
