  1. 6. Multispectral Remote Sensing and Deep Learning for Wildfire Detection

    Författare :Xikun Hu; Yifang Ban; Ioannis Gitas; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; active fire detection; biome; multi-criteria; Sentinel-2; Landsat-8; burned area mapping; deep learning; semantic segmentation; machine learning.; aktiv branddetektering; biom; multikriterietillvägagångssätt; Sentinel-2; Landsat-8; kartläggning av bränt område; djupinlärning; semantisk segmentering; maskininlärningsmetoderna; Geoinformatik; Geoinformatics;

    Sammanfattning : Remote sensing data has great potential for wildfire detection and monitoring with enhanced spatial resolution and temporal coverage. Earth Observation satellites have been employed to systematically monitor fire activity over large regions in two ways: (i) to detect the location of actively burning spots (during the fire event), and (ii) to map the spatial extent of the burned scars (during or after the event). 2. 7. Stress-induced BVOC emissions from forests in Sweden

    Författare :Erica Jaakkola; BECC: Biodiversity and Ecosystem services in a Changing Climate; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Volatile organic compounds; Plant stress; Forests; Volatile emissions; spruce bark beetle infestations; ozone stress; wildfire recovery; Picea abies Norway spruce ; Betula pubescens ssp. czerepanovii; Pinus sylvestris Scots pine ; sweden;

    Sammanfattning : A changing climate is expected to lead to more extreme weather events, such as an increased frequency of droughts and forest fires. Changing forest conditions can offer benefits to species such as insects, including bark borers that thrive in warm conditions. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Wildfire influences on stream water geochemistry in a boreal catchment

    Författare :Fredrik Nordblad; Hjalmar Laudon; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Sammanfattning : Forest wildfires are important for the structure and functioning of boreal ecosystems including biogeochemical processes. During the last decades, natural forest fires have been successfully suppressed in Fennoscandia. Therefore, our knowledge on the biogeochemical effects of forest fires is limited. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Decadal effects of forest fire on biodiversity and browsing : a comparison between wildfire and prescribed burning

    Författare :Emelie Fredriksson; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The role of fire as a natural disturbance in northern European boreal ecosystems has largely disappeared due to effective fire suppression with large consequences for fire-associated biodiversity. Recently, prescribed burns have been introduced as a conservation action that aims to promote biodiversity. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Wildfire in Swedish boreal forests - Impacts of fire severity and salvage logging on tree seedling regeneration and the belowground system

    Författare :Theresa Simona Ibáñez; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Wildfires are projected to occur more frequently and become more severe as the climate warms. The increasing release of carbon to the atmosphere from more severe fires may contribute to climate warming, and thus initiate a positive feedback loop. LÄS MER
