  1. 21. Effects of physical activity and gravitational stress on cardiovascular control

    Författare :Patrik Sundblad; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :leg exercise; posture; blood pressure; heart rate; cardiovascular model; heart function; stroke volume; tilting; orthostasis; simulated weightlessness; long-term hypokinesia;

    Sammanfattning : The long-term goal of the present work was to characterize the responses to gravitational challenges in exercising humans after long-term head-down-tilt bedrest (HDT). HDT is a simulation of weightlessness with respect to effects on the systemic circulation, and previous studies in resting men have suggested that impairments of arterial baroreflexes contribute to the orthostatic intolerance seen after HDT and spaceflight. 2. 22. Quality of intrapartum care in Rwanda: management and women's experiences

    Författare :Judith U Mukamurigo; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Childbirth experience; Intrapartum; Quality care management; Women;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this PhD project was to assess the quality of intrapartum care at healthcare facilities offering maternity services in Rwanda by investigating healthcare pro- viders’ management of labour and birth and women’s childbirth experiences. Study I, was a cross-sectional household study investigating how women’s perceptions of care received during labour and birth were related to their overall childbirth experience. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Finite Element and Neuroimaging Techniques toImprove Decision-Making in Clinical Neuroscience

    Författare :Xiaogai Li; Svein Kleiven; Hans von Holst; Bernhard A Schrefler; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Traumatic brain injury; Intracranial Pressure; Brain edema; Gravitational force; Finite Element Model; Poroelastic parameter; Decompressive craniotomy; Image registration; Water content; Strain level; Diffusion Weighted Imaging;

    Sammanfattning : Our brain, perhaps the most sophisticated and mysterious part of the human body, to some extent, determines who we are. However, it’s a vulnerable organ. When subjected to an impact, such as a traffic accident or sport, it may lead to traumatic brain injury (TBI) which can have devastating effects for those who suffer the injury. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Left Ventricular Dynamics During Exercise in Endurance Athletes

    Författare :Milena Sundstedt; Tommy Jonason; Egil Henriksen; Eva Nylander; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Physiology; athletes; exercise; left ventricular dynamics; stroke volume; mitral annular motion; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Large quantities of data have described left ventricular adaptation to endurance training, but basic concepts on left ventricular performance during exercise remain controversial. In this thesis, we present the results of studies of left ventricular dynamics during exercise in 89 endurance-trained athletes. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Noninvasive haemodynamic evaluation of aortic valve prostheses : Doppler echocardiographic studies at rest and during exercise

    Författare :Maria J Eriksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :heart valve prosthesis; aortic valve replacement; Doppler echocardiography; exercise; haemodynamics; valve resistance;

    Sammanfattning : The present series of investigations was designed to supply information on in vivo pressure-flow relationships and to analyse the incidence of regurgitation in different heart valve prostheses in the aortic position. Patients and methods: The study population comprised 185 patients with mechanical Björk-Shiley Monostrut prostheses, 54 patients with Biocor stented porcine bioprostheses, 50 patients with extended Biocor stentless bioprostheses and 59 patients with cryopreserved aortic homografts.
