    Sammanfattning : Under the extreme conditions that can be found around dense stars and in the accretion discs of black holes, several strong-field quantum phenomena dominate the dynamics of the plasma. This includes the creation of matter and anti-matter from the vacuum (Schwinger mechanism), radiation reaction and Landau quantization. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis we consider three QED phenomena in strong electromagnetic fields: Schwinger pair production, vacuum birefringence and radiation reaction. We study electron-positron pair production in a variety of field configurations and, using complex worldline instantons, reveal new insights into the case of fields with lightlike inhomogeneities.     Sammanfattning : This PhD thesis deals with the sub-cycle nature of ultrafast phenomena that occur in strong-field light–matter interactions. As it is of interest to control these phenomena, we must understand them in order to manipulate them.     Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses the theoretical treatment of photoelectrons in attosecond and free-electron laser sciences. Wehave implemented methods that extract information on the photoionization process, which we use to investigateinterferometric schemes with particular focus on multiphoton ionization and strong-field effects in attosecondmetrology and coherent control of photoelectrons in free-electron laser science.
