  1. 1. The Auroral Large Imaging System : design, operation and scientific results

    Författare :Urban Brändström; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Space and plasma physics; Aurora; Artificial airglow; HF-pump enhanced airglow; Multistation measurements; Polar Stratospheric clouds; Radio-Induced optical emissions; Spectroscopic imaging observations; Tomography; Rymd- och plasmafysik; Space physics; Rymdfysik; rymdfysik; Space Physics;

    Sammanfattning : The Auroral Large Imaging System (ALIS) was proposed in 1989 by Åke Steen as a joint Scandinavian ground-based nework of automated auroral imaging stations. The primary scientic objective was in the field of auroral physics, but it was soon realised that ALIS could be used in other fields, for example, studies of Polar Stratospheric Clouds (PSC), meteors, as well as other atmospheric phenomena. 2. 2. Regolith Properties of Mercury Derived from Observations and Modelling

    Författare :Johan Warell; Nick Thomas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astronomy; Mercury; Moon; imaging; photometry; spectroscopy; regolith; space weathering; light scattering; spectral modelling; Astronomi; Astronomy and astrophysics; Astronomi och astrofysik; astronomi; Astronomy;

    Sammanfattning : The properties of Mercury's regolith have been investigated at optical and near-infrared wavelengths with high-resolution imaging, photometric, and spectroscopic observations with the Swedish Vacuum Solar Telescope and the Nordic Optical Telescope. A new global optical map at a spatial resolution of 200 km shows that the well known (from Mariner 10) and poorly known hemispheres are indistinguishable with respect to the distribution, number density, and morphological parameters of bright albedo features. 3. 3. Imaging and Spectroscopic Mapping of Blood Cell Activity : Nanoparticles and Neutrophil Extracellular Traps

    Författare :Kalle Bunnfors; Kajsa Uvdal; Caroline Brommesson; Christelle Prinz; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Neutrophils; Neutrophil extracellular traps; fluorescence; XPS; TEM;

    Sammanfattning : Imaging and visualization of cell activity when exposed to nanomaterial are of main importance, when investigating biological response to a wide range of biomaterials from medical implants to smart nanoprobes. The ability to provide molecular and chemical information with spatial resolution in the region of sub-µm leads to increased insight and understanding of these biological challenges. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Magnetic and Chemical Structures in Stellar Atmospheres

    Författare :Oleg Kochukhov; Nikolai Piskunov; Georges Michaud; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astronomy; chemically peculiar stars; high-resolution spectroscopy; magnetic fields; Doppler imaging; rapidly oscillating Ap stars; Astronomi; Astronomy and astrophysics; Astronomi och astrofysik; Astronomy; Astronomi;

    Sammanfattning : We present an investigation of the magnetic field geometries and inhomogeneous distribution of chemical elements in the atmospheres of peculiar A and B stars. Our study combines high-quality spectroscopic and spectropolarimetric stellar observations with the development and application of novel techniques for theoretical interpretation of the shapes and variability of stellar line profiles. 5. 5. Magnetic fields of cool stars from near-infrared spectropolarimetry

    Författare :Alexis Lavail; Oleg Kochukhov; Nikolai Piskunov; Gaitee Hussain; Jeff Valenti; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stars: magnetic field; stars: pre-main-sequence; stars: late-type; techniques: spectroscopic; techniques: polarimetric; Astronomy; Astronomi;

    Sammanfattning : Magnetic fields rule many physical processes in and around stars throughout their lifetime. All cool stars possess a magnetic field, likely generated by dynamo processes. In order to properly understand the evolution of cool stars, we need to understand their magnetism. LÄS MER
