31. The Auroral Large Imaging System : design, operation and scientific results
Sammanfattning : The Auroral Large Imaging System (ALIS) was proposed in 1989 by Åke Steen as a joint Scandinavian ground-based nework of automated auroral imaging stations. The primary scientic objective was in the field of auroral physics, but it was soon realised that ALIS could be used in other fields, for example, studies of Polar Stratospheric Clouds (PSC), meteors, as well as other atmospheric phenomena. 32. Interaction between Electromagnetic Waves and Localized Plasma Oscillations
Sammanfattning : This thesis treats interaction between electromagnetic waves and localized plasma oscillations. Two specific physical systems are considered, namely artificially excited magnetic field-aligned irregularities (striations) and naturally excited lower hybrid solitary structures (LHSS). LÄS MER
33. The Polar Cusp and its Ionospheric footprint : Dynamics and Transients
Sammanfattning : The magnetopause, the boundary layer between the solar wind and the Earth’s magnetosphere, is not closed as we have long thought. Transfers of energy, particles and momentum from the solar wind to the magnetosphere actually take place. LÄS MER
34. Development and simulated observations of the Jovian Neutrals Analyzer
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the development of the Jovian Neutrals Analyzer (JNA) for the Jupiter ICy moons Explorer (JUICE) mission to Jupiter, planned to launch in 2023. Jupiter, the largest planet in the Solar System, orbits the Sun at five times the distance from the Earth to the Sun, accompanied by dozens of moons, rings, and the largest object in the SolarSystem: the Jovian magnetosphere. 35. Hubble Space Telescope Spectroscopy of Eta Carinae and Chi Lupi
Sammanfattning : Eta Carinae is a super-massive, super-luminous star. It is surrounded by a bipolar nebula, the "Homunculus", and several blobs of ejected gas which are the source of a complex emission-line spectrum. LÄS MER
