6. Nonlinear Beam Physics
Sammanfattning : A condensed treatment of conventional beam physics (both linear and nonlinear) is given for the non-expert; this constitutes a minimum knowhow for constructing simulations of rudimentary beamlines. The criteria for an ideal nonlinear charged-particle simulation algorithm are then presented, leading to the derivation of a symplectic, explicit, Lorentz-covariant integrator. LÄS MER
7. Alfvén Waves and Energy Transformation in Space Plasmas
Sammanfattning : This thesis is focused on the role of Alfvén waves in the energy transformation and transport in the magnetosphere. Different aspects of Alfvén wave generation, propagation and dissipation are considered. The study involves analysis of experimental data from the Freja, Polar and Cluster spacecraft, as well as theoretical development. LÄS MER
8. Explorations of University Physics in Abstract Contexts : From de Sitter Space to Learning Space
Sammanfattning : This is a thesis which contributes to research in two different fields: theoretical physics and physics education research. The common link between these two research areas is that both involve explorations of abstract physics and mathematical representations, but from different perspectives. LÄS MER
9. Interaction between Electromagnetic Waves and Localized Plasma Oscillations
Sammanfattning : This thesis treats interaction between electromagnetic waves and localized plasma oscillations. Two specific physical systems are considered, namely artificially excited magnetic field-aligned irregularities (striations) and naturally excited lower hybrid solitary structures (LHSS). LÄS MER
10. Development and simulated observations of the Jovian Neutrals Analyzer
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the development of the Jovian Neutrals Analyzer (JNA) for the Jupiter ICy moons Explorer (JUICE) mission to Jupiter, planned to launch in 2023. Jupiter, the largest planet in the Solar System, orbits the Sun at five times the distance from the Earth to the Sun, accompanied by dozens of moons, rings, and the largest object in the SolarSystem: the Jovian magnetosphere.
