  1. 31. Vascular functions in infants, children and their mothers

    Författare :Helena Martin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The function of the microvascular system was studied during early postnatal circulatory adaptation and in early-onset neonatal sepsis. We also studied large and small artery functions in infants and schoolchildren of low birthweight, a risk factor related to later development of cardiovascular disease and hypertension. LÄS MER

  2. 32. Placental pathology regarding inflammation and a new classification of stillbirth

    Författare :Ingela Hulthén Varli; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The incidence of stillbirth has remained almost constant during the last 2-3 decades despite obvious improvements in obstetric care. To achieve a reduction of stillbirth, better understanding of the etiology is imperative. Relevant test protocols and audit work is reported to reduce the number of unexplained cases. LÄS MER

  3. 33. Adverse effects of exposure to air pollutants during fetal development and early life : with focus on pre-eclampsia, preterm delivery, and childhood asthma

    Författare :David Olsson; Bertil Forsberg; Beate Ritz; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Air pollution; pregnancy outcomes; asthma; Epidemiology; epidemiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background Air pollution exposure has been shown to have adverse effects on several health outcomes, and numerous studies have reported associations with cardiovascular morbidity, respiratory disease, and mortality. Over the last decade, an increasing number of studies have investigated possible associations with pregnancy outcomes, including preterm delivery. LÄS MER

  4. 34. Different aspects of electronic fetal monitoring during labor

    Författare :Erika Gyllencreutz; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Cardiotocography (CTG) is a tool to assess fetal well-being during labor and to detect early signs of fetal distress and thereby enable timely interventions to reduce neonatal morbidity and mortality. CTG is associated with shortcomings; poor reliability in interpretation, low specificity with a high proportion of false positive tracings indicating fetal distress when not accurate, no proven effect on rare severe outcomes such as mortality and cerebral palsy, but rather contributing to an increased risk of operative delivery. 5. 35. Metabolic effects and long-term safety of childhood growth hormone treatment

    Författare :Anders Tidblad; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate the metabolic effects and long-term safety of childhood growth hormone (GH) treatment. In order to achieve this aim, the different projects consist of a two-part clinical trial on metabolic features linked to GH physiology and GH treatment as well as two large population-based cohort studies with focus on the long-term cardiovascular and cancer risks in previously GH-treated patients.
