  1. 6. Interactions between neural retina, retinal epithelium and choroid

    Författare :Lena Ivert; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :RPE; neural retina; basal lamina; Bruch s membrane; choroid; subretinal space; bleb detachment; ICG; FAG; SLO; choroidal blood flow.;

    Sammanfattning : The retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) is a non-replicating monolayer that plays a key role nursing the photoreceptors of the neural retina, regulating fluid movement within the subretinal space, maintaining a basal laminar layer of Bruch s membrane, and influencing the choriocapillaris. This project investigates how surgical manipulation of the retinal epithelial layer influences the neural retina, the choroid and the epithelial layer itself. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Retinal tumorigenesis and neurodegeneration : strategies to promote tumor cell death and support retinal cell survival to preserve vision

    Författare :Tanzina Mollick; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Our vision is central to our quality of life enabling us to interact with our environment and lead productive lives. The ability to see begins in the retina, one of the paramount features of the eye, as it takes on the task of converting light signals to nerve impulses that are relayed to the visual centers of the brain. 3. 8. X-LINKED RETINOSCHISIS ELECTROPHYSIOLOGY, MOLECULAR GENETICS AND TREATMENT

    Författare :Sten Kjellström; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mouse model; retinal degeneration; X-linked retinoschisis; XLRS; gene therapy; electroretinography;

    Sammanfattning : X-linked retinoschisis (XLRS) is a congenital progressive inherited retinal disease that affects the entire retina and is one of the more common causes of vision loss from retinal degeneration affecting young men,. The progression is variable but seems to be relatively stationary in the ages 6 to 25 years. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Photoreceptor degeneration, second order neuron remodeling and glia reactivity in an in vivo and in vitro model of retinal neurodegeneration

    Författare :Tanzina Mollick; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biomedicin; Biomedicine;

    Sammanfattning : Photoreceptors have the ability to last during the entire lifespan of an individual. Being the first line of neurons in the visual transduction pathway, their health and maintenance is eminent for proper retinal function. However, photoreceptors are susceptible to neurodegenerative retinal dystrophies. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Experimental inhibition of proliferative retinopathy

    Författare :Sylvia Almlöf Sarman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Retinal ischemic diseases like retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), diabetic retinopathy (DRP) and retinal vein occlusion, with preretinal neovascularization (angiogenesis) that may lead to vitreous hemorrhages and retinal detachment with subsequent vision loss and blindness is a global health problem. By analyzing the potential role of molecules acting at different levels of the angiogenic cascade the presented studies aimed to widen our understanding of retinal ischemic diseases on a molecular, cellular and morphologic level.
