  1. 16. Lignocellulose Biocomposites– A Comparison of Wood Fibers and Microfibrillated Lignocellulose

    Författare :Erfan Oliaei; Lars Berglund; Tom S. C. Lindström; Fredrik Berthold; ‪Maria Soledad Peresin; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Sammanfattning : All-lignocellulose composites, meaning densified fiber or fibril materials without added binder, show interesting mechanical properties and can be eco-friendly. Composites based on hot-pressed microfibrillated lignocellulose (MFLC) and lignocellulosic wood fiber (WF) reinforcements are compared with respect to processing, structure, mechanical properties, and eco-indicators. 2. 17. Tailoring adhesion and wetting properties of cellulose fibers and model surfaces

    Författare :Emil Gustafsson; Lars Wågberg; Monika Österberg; Mikael Hedenqvist; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : The layer-by-layer (LbL) technique was used to modify the surface of cellulose fibers by consecutive adsorption of poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) and poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) followed by a final adsorbed layer of anionic paraffin wax colloids. Paper hand sheets made from the modified fibers were found to be highly hydrophobic with a contact angle of 150°. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Water purification using polyelectrolyte modified cellulose fibers and filters to adsorb bacteria

    Författare :Anna Ottenhall; Monica Ek; Joydeep Dutta; Emma Strömberg; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bacterial adsorption; cellulose filter; Layer-by-Layer; water treatment; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Sammanfattning : Clean water is necessary for human survival and there is a need for development of cheap and easy water purification techniques to use in emergency situations when there is no access to safe drinking water. Bacteria contaminated water can cause lethal diarrheal diseases and is globally the second most common cause of death among children less than five years of age. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Mass Transport in Wood Disintegration: Implications for the Pulp and Paper Industry

    Författare :Roujin Ghaffari; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; mass transport; specific ion effects; impregnation; Kraft pulping; ionoSolv; ionic liquids; delignification;

    Sammanfattning : Efficient delignification and fractionation processes are essential in the pulp and paper industry. Mass transport events in wood fractionation are of great importance, specifically in two main stages, namely, the mass transport of chemicals into wood and the mass transport of degraded lignin molecules out of cellulose confinements. 5. 20. Melt-processing and properties of thermoplastic composites based on ethylene-acrylic acid copolymer reinforced with wood nanocellulose

    Författare :Abhijit Venkatesh; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Pulp fibers; Melt rheology; Composite; Injection moulding; Cellulose; Cellulose nanofibers; Cellulose nanocrystals; Extrusion; Mechanical properties;

    Sammanfattning : Composites reinforced with cellulose nanofibers (CNF), both modified and unmodified cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) and pulp fibers have been prepared through small-scale and large-scale methods. The composites were produced by water-assisted dispersion mixing, drying and compression moulding on the laboratory scale and by extrusion and injection moulding for the large-scale production.
