11. Porous Materials from Cellulose Nanofibrils
Sammanfattning : In the first part of this work a novel type of low-density, sponge-like material for the separation of mixtures of oil and water has been prepared by vapour deposition of hydrophobic tri-chloro-silanes on ultra-porous cellulose nanofibril (CNF) aerogels. To achieve this, a highly porous (>99%) robust CNF aerogel with high structural flexibility is first formed by freeze-drying an aqueous suspension of the CNFs. LÄS MER
12. Fabrication, Characterization and Applications of Porous Silicon Thin Films and Multilayered Systems
Sammanfattning : Variable angle spectroscopic ellipsometry was used for characterization of single- as well as multilayered systems of porous silicon. In addition to the complex structures such as Bragg reflectors and Fabry-Pérot filters, more advanced continuos porosity profiles were manufactured in a controlled manner. LÄS MER
13. Light emitting devices based on silicon nanostructures
Sammanfattning : Although silicon is the dominant semiconductor today, lightemitting devices are currently based on compound semiconductorsdue to their direct band-gap, which promotes fast radiativerecombination. However, in nanometer-size silicon structures, carrier confinement enhances the radiative recombination, while, at the same time, suppresses diffusion to non-radiativerecombination centra, resulting in a significant increase inlight emission efficiency. 14. Affinity biosensors with porous and multi-array surfaces
Sammanfattning : Affinity biosensing is one of many analytical techniques that have high potential for the detection of drug leads. In this thesis the use of ellipsometry, surface plasmon resonance (SPR) as well as quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) as screening methods in drug discovery are presented. LÄS MER
15. Carrier Dynamics in Single Luminescent Silicon Quantum Dots
Sammanfattning : Bulk silicon as an indirect bandgap semiconductor is a poor light emitter. In contrast, silicon nanocrystals (Si NCs) exhibit strong emission even at room temperature, discovered initially at 1990 for porous silicon by Leigh Canham. LÄS MER
