  1. 1. On the control of virtual violins : Physical modelling and control of bowed string instruments

    Författare :Matthias Demoucron; Anders Askenfelt; Rene Causse; Benoit Fabre; Marcelo Wanderley; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bowed string; physical modelling; sound synthesis; performance control; violin playing; Corde frottée; modélisation physique; synthèse sonore; contrôle gestuel; violon; Struken sträng; fysikalisk modellering; ljudsyntes; musikutförande; violinspel; Other physics; Övrig fysik; Computer science; Datavetenskap; Acoustics; Akustik;

    Sammanfattning :   This thesis treats the control of sound synthesis of bowed string instruments based on physical modelling. The work followed two approaches: (a) a systematic exploration of the influence of control parameters (bow force, bow velocity, and bow-bridge distance) on the output of a physical model of the violin, and (b) measurements and analyses of the bowing parameters in real violin playing in order to model and parameterize basic classes of bowing patterns for synthesis control. 2. 2. Optics for Earth Observation Instruments

    Författare :Arvid Hammar; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; off-axis; free-form mirrors; measurements; stray light; spline horns; THz; reflector optics; satellites; scientific instruments; diamond turning; tolerancing; telescopes;

    Sammanfattning : The optical system is an essential part of every remote sensing instrument used for detecting electromagnetic waves. Careful design, fabrication and characterization is therefore crucial, especially for satellite-borne missions where the possibility of post-launch repairs is highly limited. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Physical characterization of engineered aerosol particles

    Författare :Linus Ludvigsson; Fasta tillståndets fysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fysicumarkivet A:2017:Ludvigsson;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis will explore parts of the life of engineered nanoparticles, from generation in research environments andprocess monitoring, to emissions in an industrial setting. The aim is to give insights into how the particles can becharacterized in different settings and how different characterization methods can be applied depending on need ordemand. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Modeling rating curves from close-range remote sensing data : Application of laser and acoustic ranging instruments for capturing stream channel topography

    Författare :Norris Lam; Steve W. Lyon; Jason W. Kean; Ida Westerberg; Helle Skånes; James Brasington; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; laser scanning; acoustic Doppler current profiler; hydraulic modeling; rating curves; Sweden; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : A rating curve provides a functional relationship between water height (i.e. stage) and discharge at a specified cross-section in a river. Used in combination with a time series of stage, rating curves become one of the central components for generating continuous records of streamflow. LÄS MER

  5. 5. NMR Studies of Colloidal Systems in and out of Equilibrium

    Författare :Pavel V. Yushmanov; Peter Stilbs; Terence Gosgrove; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stopped-flow NMR; temperature-jump NMR; crossrelaxation; NMR; NMR probe; fluorosurfactant; micellar kinetics; micellar structure; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The Thesis describes (i) the development of add-on instrumentation extending the capabilities of conventional NMR spectrometers and (ii) the application of the designed equipments and techniques for investigating various colloidal systems. The new equipments are: Novel designs of stopped-flow and temperature–jump inserts intended for conventional Bruker wide-bore superconductive magnets. LÄS MER
