11. The Informed Gaze : On the Implications of ICT-Based Surveillance
Sammanfattning : Information and communication technologies are not value-neutral. I examine two domains, public health surveillance and sustainability, in five papers covering: (i) the design and development of a software package for computer-assisted outbreak detection; (ii) a workflow for using simulation models to provide policy advice and a list of challenges for its practice; (iii) an analysis of design documents from three smart home projects presenting intersecting visions of sustainability; (iv) an analysis of EU-financed projects dealing with sustainability and ICT; (v) an analysis of the consequences of design choices when creating surveillance technologies. 12. Systematic Data-Driven Continual Self-Learning
Sammanfattning : There is a lot of unexploited potential in using data-driven and self-learning methods to dramatically improve automatic decision-making and control in complex industrial systems. So far, and on a relatively small scale, these methods have demonstrated some potential to achieve performance gains for the automated tuning of complex distributed systems. LÄS MER
13. XPS studies of an organic anode and hole-conductor system : PEDOT-PSS
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with photoelectron spectroscopy of conducting polymer systems. A particular system, poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrenesulfonic acid (PEDOT-PSS), has been the main focus of this work. It is an aqueous colloidal dispersion consisting of doped conjugated polymer PEDOT with counter ions provided by the PSS chains. LÄS MER
14. Many-Sorted Implicative Conceptual Systems
Sammanfattning : A theory of many-sorted implicative conceptual systems (abbreviated msic-systems) is presented. Examples of msic-systems include legal systems, normative systems, systems of rules and instructions, and systems expressing policies and various kinds of scientific theories. LÄS MER
15. Health Data : Representation and (In)visibility
Sammanfattning : Health data requires context to be understood. I show how, by examining two areas: self-surveillance, with a focus on representation of bodily data, and mass-surveillance, with a focus on representing populations. LÄS MER
