  1. 21. Climbing up the hearing rehabilitation ladder

    Författare :Elisabeth Ingo; Ariane Laplante-Lévesque; Thomas Lunner; Gerhard Andersson; Margaret Wallhagen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; online hearing screening; Stages of change; Motivational interviewing;

    Sammanfattning : Hearing impairment is a major public health problem, affecting communication and participation, and is associated with a range of health problems. Most individuals with perceived hearing impairment do not seek help, do not opt for rehabilitation (hearing aids), and do not use prescribed hearing aids adequately. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Effects of Specific Cochlear Pathologies on the Auditory Functions : Modelling, Simulations and Clinical Implications

    Författare :Amin G. Saremi; Stefan Stenfelt; Steve Elliott; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Auditory modeling; cochlear mechanics; sensorineural hearing impairment; age-related hearing loss; noise-induced hearing loss; inner ear pathologies;

    Sammanfattning : A hearing impairment is primarily diagnosed by measuring the hearing thresholds at a range of auditory frequencies (air-conduction audiometry). Although this clinical procedure is simple, affordable, reliable and fast, it does not offer differential information about origins of the hearing impairment. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Assessing cognitive spare capacity as a measure of listening effort using the Auditory Inference Span Test

    Författare :Niklas Rönnberg; Stefan Stenfelt; Mary Rudner; Thomas Lunner; Larry Humes; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Listening effort; Cognitive spare capacity; Speech-in-noise; Cognition; Working memory; Updating; Hearing impairment;

    Sammanfattning : Hearing loss has a negative effect on the daily life of 10-15% of the world’s population. One of the most common ways to treat a hearing loss is to fit hearing aids which increases audibility by providing amplification. Hearing aids thus improve speech reception in quiet, but listening in noise is nevertheless often difficult and stressful. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Bilateral hearing aids for bilaterally hearing-impaired persons : always the best choice?

    Författare :Susanne Köbler; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :bilateral hearing aids; binaural hearing; speech-in-noise; dichotic tests; binaural masking level difference;

    Sammanfattning : The most logical solution if a person has a hearing impairment on both ears, seems to be bilateral bearing aid amplification in both ears. Numerous studies have shown the advantages of this fitting strategy. However, there were always some individuals not benefiting from bilateral hearing aids; until recently a neglected group of persons. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Retinal function in deaf-blind syndromes

    Författare :Eva Malm; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; general anesthesia.; molecular genetics; hearing impairment; full-field electroretinography; Retinal degeneration;

    Sammanfattning : A variety of disorders can cause retinal degeneration and hearing impairment, and it is of great value to have an early diagnosis since there is a large variation in phenotype and prognosis both within and between the different disorders. The general aim of this thesis was to characterize the retinal function, to describe the phenotype, and – where appropriate – to relate the phenotype to genotype in patients with combined visual and hearing impairment.
