1. Time-varying Waveform Distortion in Low voltage network
Sammanfattning : The progressive advancement in new technologies has introduced new types of equipment into the grid. Some of these devices, which have gained significant popularity in the last few decades are photovoltaic (PV) systems and wind power systems from the generation side, and energy-efficient lighting i.e. LÄS MER
2. Optimization of High-order Harmonic Generation for Attosecond Science
Sammanfattning : High-order harmonic generation is a highly nonlinear, though inherently inefficient, process which can lead to emission of coherent, broadband extreme ultraviolet radiation in the form of attosecond pulses. Attosecond pulses are crucial for experiments investigating photoionization dynamics on the femto- and attosecond timescales. LÄS MER
3. Temporal Aspects of High-Intensity Laser-Matter Interactions
Sammanfattning : The availability of short-pulse, high-intensity lasers has opened doors to new areas in atomic and plasma physics. The short pulses (a few femtoseconds), that are available today, enable unprecedented temporal measurements, while the high peak power accessible (several terawatts) allows physicists to study the interaction between light and relativistic plasmas. 4. Statistical Mechanical Studies of Titrating Polyelectrolytes
Sammanfattning : Different models and statistical mechanical approximations for titrating polyelectrolytes are studied and the results compared with Monte Carlo simulations and experimental data. Three types of models have been used in the simulations: i) rigid structures and freely jointed chains with ii) rigid bonds and iii) flexible, harmonic bonds. LÄS MER
5. Spectra of elliptic operators and applications
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we consider several problems related to elliptic equations. Namely, we investigate Helmholtz and Maxwell's equations in Paper I and Sturm-Liouville spectral problem in Papers II,III. In Paper I we study time-harmonic electromagnetic and acoustic waveguide, modeled by an innite cylinder with a non-smooth cross section. LÄS MER
