  1. 1. Optical metasurfaces for momentum exchange between light and matter

    Författare :Mohammad Mahdi Shanei; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; optical forces and torques; phase-gradient metasurface; particle transport; optical momentum exchange; Flat optics; rotary meta-motor; meta-particle;

    Sammanfattning : Light carries energy and momentum that can be transferred to matter. Because of the conservation of total momentum, a change in light momentum due to interaction with an object must be compensated by an equal but opposite change in the momentum of that object. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Magnetoplasmonic nanostructures

    Författare :Emil Melander; Vassilios Kapaklis; Björgvin Hjörvarsson; Evangelos Th. Papaioannou; Paolo Vavassori; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Magnetism; nanostructures; plasmons; magneto-optics; magnetoplasmonics; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Sammanfattning : Surfaces that are nanopatterned, metallic, and magnetic can support surface plasmon resonances, providing an alternative and effective way to reconfigure flat optical components. Utilising a range of near- and far-field characterisation techniques, the optical and magneto-optical properties of lithographically patterned thin magnetic films are investigated. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Laser-Induced Incandescence for Soot Diagnostics: Theoretical Investigation and Experimental Development

    Författare :Jonathan Johnsson; Förbränningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; premixed flat flames; fractal soot aggregates; laser-induced incandescence; soot; soot optical properties; soot absorption function; laser diagnostics; Fysicumarkivet A:2012:Johnsson;

    Sammanfattning : Laser-induced incandescence, LII, is a laser-diagnostic technique that can be used to measure the volume fraction and the sizes of soot particles suspended in a gas, such as within a combustion process or in its exhausts. The technique is based on the facts that the time-decay of the radiation from laser-heated soot particles is directly related to the particle size in the probed volume, and that the time-integrated radiation is related to the soot volume fraction. 4. 4. Liquid Crystals in Guided Wave Optics

    Författare :Giusy Scalia; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; antiferroelectric liquid crystals; fully-leaky guided mode; ortho-conics; waveguide; liquid crystals; anisotropy;

    Sammanfattning : Liquid crystals are unique optical materials due to their large effective electrooptic and opto-optic coefficients. Currently, liquid crystals are primarily used in flat-panel dis-plays, but there is also an increasing number of nondisplay applications requiring new types of devices employing materials with unique optical properties. 5. 5. Diamond Microfabrication for Applications in Optics and Chemical Sensing

    Författare :Pontus Forsberg; Mikael Karlsson; Christoph Nebel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; diamond; microfabrication; microoptics; coronagraph; waveguide; microelectrodes; superhydrophobic; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot mikrosystemteknik; Engineering Science with specialization in Microsystems Technology;

    Sammanfattning : Diamond is a material with many exceptional properties. In this thesis methods for fabrication of microstructures as well as several applications of such structures in optics, microfluidics and electrochemistry are presented.A method for etching deep and highly precise gratings is described.
