7. Thin Film and Plasma Characterization of PVD Oxides
Sammanfattning : The state-of-the-art tools for machining metals are primarily based on a metal-ceramic composite(WC-Co) coated with different combinations of carbide, nitride and oxide coatings. Combinations of these coating materials are optimized to withstand specific wear conditions. LÄS MER
8. Magnetron sputtering of binary, ternary and multicomponent thin film borides and carbides
Sammanfattning : Design of new thin film materials with improved properties and functionality is an important research field in materials science. In this thesis, I have used magnetron sputtering to deposit new thin film materials, which should combine high hardness and high ductility with other properties such as low friction or a good corrosion resistance. 9. Investigation of compositionally complex refractory metal based thin films
Sammanfattning : The search for new and improved materials has led to the discovery and establishment of compositionally complex or high-entropy materials. The work in this thesis is focused on the investigation of new compositionally complex materials based on the refractory metals of groups 4-6. LÄS MER
10. Synthesis and characterization of Ga-containing MAX phase thin films
Sammanfattning : The study of magnetic Mn+1AXn (MAX) phases (n = 1 − 3, M – a transition metal, A – an A group element, X – C or N) is a recently established research area, fuelled by theoretical predictions and first confirmed experimentally through alloying of Mn into the well-known Cr2AlC and Cr2GeC. Theoretical phase stability investigations suggested a new magnetic MAX phase, Mn2GaC, containing Ga which is liquid close to room temperature. LÄS MER
