1. Synthesis and characterization of Ga-containing MAX phase thin films
Sammanfattning : The study of magnetic Mn+1AXn (MAX) phases (n = 1 − 3, M – a transition metal, A – an A group element, X – C or N) is a recently established research area, fuelled by theoretical predictions and first confirmed experimentally through alloying of Mn into the well-known Cr2AlC and Cr2GeC. Theoretical phase stability investigations suggested a new magnetic MAX phase, Mn2GaC, containing Ga which is liquid close to room temperature. LÄS MER
2. Synthesis and characterization of two- and three-dimensional nanolaminated carbides
Sammanfattning : This thesis is focused towards the synthesis and characterization of novel nanolaminated materials in primarily bulk (powder) form. Of particular interest is magnetic materials, or laminates that can be used as precursor for two-dimensional (2D) materials. LÄS MER
3. Characterization of Process-related Defects in Silicon Carbide by Electron Microscopy
Sammanfattning : Silicon carbide (SiC) is a semiconducting material, which provides advantages compared to other available semiconducting materials. Attractive properties of SiC are the wide bandgap (2.2-3.3 eV), high electric breakdown field (3x106 Vcm-1), high thermal conductivity (5 Wcm-1 K-1) and the chemical stabi!ity. LÄS MER
4. Surface characterization of 2D transition metal carbides (MXenes)
Sammanfattning : Research on two-dimensional (2D) materials is a rapidly growing field owing to the wide range of new interesting properties found in 2D structures that are vastly different from their three-dimensional (3D) analogues. In addition, 2D materials embodies a significant surface area that facilitates a high degree of surface reactions per unit volume or mass, that is imperative in many applications such as catalysis, energy storage, energy conversion, filtration, and single molecule sensing. 5. Synthesis and characterization of magnetic nanolaminated carbides
Sammanfattning : MAX phases are a group of nanolaminated ternary carbides and nitrides, with a composition expressed by the general formula Mn+1AXn (? = 1 − 3), where M is a transition metal, A is an A-group element, and X is carbon and/or nitrogen. MAX phases have attracted interest due to their unique combination of metallic and ceramic properties, related to their inherently laminated structure of a transition metal carbide (Mn+1Xn) layer interleaved by an A-group metal layer.
