26. Precision cooling for C02 reduction
Sammanfattning : Global climate is adversely affected by increasing emissions of carbon dioxide and other green-house gases. The road transport sector contributes significantly to these emissions. LÄS MER
27. Fatigue improvement of steel bridges with high-frequency mechanical impact treatment
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the performance of fatigue-improved welds with high-frequency mechanical impact (HFMI) for application on new bridges. Fatigue strength improvement with HFMI can enable lightweight design of bridges and allow the utilisation of the benefits of high-strength steels. LÄS MER
28. Multiscale granular mechanics: A neutron diffraction based experimental approach
Sammanfattning : Granular media (i.e., assemblies of grains, containing voids), such as sand, are highly complex materials, possessing inherently heterogeneous structure and properties that are manifested by the mobility and interaction of their constituent particles. Despite having been widely studied for centuries (i. LÄS MER
29. Biomechanics of abdominal aortic aneurysm:Experimental evidence and multiscale constitutive modeling
Sammanfattning : The reliable assessment of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) rupture risk is critically important in reducing related mortality without unnecessarily increasing the rate of elective repair. A multi-disciplinary approach including vascular biomechanics and constitutive modeling is needed to better understand and more effectively treat these diseases. LÄS MER
30. Flexural Strengthening of Reinforced Concrete Beams Using Externally Bonded CFRP--An Innovative Method for the Application of Prestressed CFRP Laminates
Sammanfattning : A large number of existing bridges in European countries are structurally deficient and functionally obsolete due to the deterioration of aging bridges and the lack of structural and geometric capacity to accommodate the increasing traffic volume and load levels. To meet the demand for holistic and effective strengthening techniques the SUREBRIDGE solution is proposed for the refurbishment of concrete bridges, which includes the technique of using prestressed carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) laminate as externally bonded reinforcement for flexural strengthening.
