21. The association of inflammatory biomarkers with cardiovascular events : a long and winding path
Sammanfattning : Aims: The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate the association of inflammatory biomarkers with cardiovascular disease (CVD) with the final scope to identify potential novel predictors of incident cardiovascular events (CVE). The specific objectives were: to study the association between levels of IL8 and the genetic variants at the IL8 and IL8 receptor genes with the occurrence of myocardial infarction (MI) and to explore if these genetic variants regulate IL8 levels (Study 1); to identify novel genetic variants associated with IL8 levels (Study II); to study the association of IL8 levels with the risk of CVE (Study III) and, finally, to investigate the association between the levels of soluble IL6 receptors (sIL6R and sgp130) with the occurrence of MI (Study IV). 22. On possibilities of smart meters switching at low voltage level for emergency grid management
Sammanfattning : Smart Meter (SM) is an advanced remotely readable energy meter with two-way communication capability which measures the electrical energy in real-time or near-real-time and securely sends data to Distribution System Operator (DSO). A smart metering system is an application of SMs on a larger scale, i.e. LÄS MER
23. Clinical and physiological consequences of preoxygenation using high-flow nasal oxygen in emergency anaesthesia
Sammanfattning : Emergency anaesthesia is usually performed using a rapid sequence induction technique. The incidence of desaturation during rapid sequence induction is high, and preoxygenation prolongs the safe apnoea time. LÄS MER
24. Neurointensive care of subarachnoid hemorrhage : Clinical and neurochemical aspects
Sammanfattning : Neurointensive care (NIC) has gained terrain in the treatment of patients with various acute cerebral conditions. It is based on the concept that an unfavorable clinical outcome, to a certain extent, results from all secondary ischemic insults sustained by the brain during the acute phase of the disease. LÄS MER
25. Saving lives during major underground mining incidents : becoming prepared for a collaborative response
Sammanfattning : Background: Major incidents in underground mines are uncommon, but they can have severe consequences. In Sweden, the municipal rescue service and the regional emergency medical service (EMS) are dispatched to mining incidents, and together with the privately owned/state owned mineral and metalliferous mining company they perform a rescue operation.
