  1. 6. The proteasome as a target for cancer therapy

    Författare :Peter Larsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cancer; Cell viability assay; Chemotherapy; Drug repurposing; Genomic and transcriptomic signatures; Prognostic biomarkers; Proteasome; Proteasome genes; Proteasome inhibitors; Drug sensitivity biomarkers; Synergistic effect; Triple-negative breast cancer;

    Sammanfattning : The main objective of this PhD thesis was to evaluate the significance of proteasome genes as prognostic markers for different cancer types and identify specific cancer forms that respond to proteasome inhibition. The proteasome (PSM) plays an important role in maintaining cellular proteostasis and degrades the majority of proteins that require breakdown in the cell. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Biological markers and treatment as prognostic factors in multiple myeloma

    Författare :Katarina Uttervall; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Multiple myeloma (MM) is an incurable disease with an increasing number of treatment options. The introduction of what are called novel drugs (bortezomib, lenalidomide and thalidomide) was an important step. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Congenital muscular dystrophy with laminin α2 chain-deficiency. Initiation of disease and development of treatment

    Författare :Zandra Körner; Muskelbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; muskeldystrofi; Muscular dystrophy; Autophagy; proteasome; Laminin; MDC1A;

    Sammanfattning : Congenital muscle dystrophy type 1A (MDC1A) is a muscle disease caused bymutations in the LAMA2 gene, encoding the basement membrane protein lamininα2 chain. MDC1A patients exhibit neonatal onset of muscle weakness, progressivemuscle wasting and hypotonia, joint contractures that mostly affect elbows, hips,knees and ankles along with scoliosis and delayed motor milestones. 4. 9. Telomerase in hematological and other malignancies : therapeutic implications

    Författare :Bingnan Li; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The Telomere is a nucleoprotein complex consisting of TTAGGG repeated sequences covered by specialized binding proteins termed shelterins masking the end of linear chromosomes and thereby protecting the end of the chromosome from genomic instability. Telomeres become progressively shortened during cellular replication and acts as a mitotic clock to confer a limited lifespan to normal cells. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Apoptosis signaling in leukemia and lymphoma: understanding mechanisms of chemoresistance

    Författare :Astrid Ottosson Wadlund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Apoptosis (programmed cell death) is a basic physiological process, essential in the balance between life and death of cells of normal tissues in the body. Apoptosis can be considered as cellular “suicide” initiated by the cell itself when infected by a virus or transformed into a cancer cell. LÄS MER
