  1. 11. On the binding of growth-promoting polyamines to proteoglycans: Implications for growth-regulation and polycation-mediated gene transfer

    Författare :Mattias Belting; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; cationic lipid.; gene transfer; gene therapy; cell growth; polyamine transport; spermine; polyamine; growth-inhibition; heparan sulphate; dermatan sulphate; Proteoglycan; glycosaminoglycan; cytogenetics; Genetik; cytogenetik;

    Sammanfattning : Initial investigations were directed at studying the interaction between polyamines and various glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). The polyamine spermine displayed binding to dermatan sulphate (DS) and heparan sulphate (HS) with similar (Kd, 3.9 x 10-4 M) and higher (Kd, 0.37 x 10-6 M) affinity, respectively, than to DNA. 2. 12. EVALUATION OF BIOLOGICAL STRATEGIES TO ENHANCE HYDROLYSIS DURING ANAEROBIC DIGESTION OF COMPLEX WASTE

    Författare :Dores Cirne; Bioteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Miljöteknik; kontroll av utsläpp; Biotechnology; bioaugmentation; enzyme addition; Environmental technology; pollution control; FISH; cellulose; inhibition; lipids; Clostridium lundense; hydrolysis; complex substrate; Anaerobic digestion; renewable energy; Bioteknik; LCFA;

    Sammanfattning : Anaerobic digestion (AD) offers considerable potential in the production of energy from renewable sources, and is being increasingly recognised as a sustainable technology for the treatment of waste. The production of energy from waste such as municipal solid waste (MSW), lipid-rich waste, and agricultural biomass and waste may play an important role in the production of renewable energy given the huge amounts of these types of waste generated annually. 3. 13. Respiration in Actinobacteria : Structure, function and inhibition of the III2IV2 supercomplex

    Författare :Sylwia Król; Peter Brzezinski; Dirk Bald; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bioenergetics; structural biology; electron transport chain; respiratory supercomplex; electron transfer; proton transfer; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The final step of aerobic respiration, oxidative phosphorylation, combines the activities of the electron transport chain and of ATP synthase. The electron transport chain is composed of membrane-bound energy transducers, which are organized in supramolecular assemblies known as respiratory supercomplexes. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Hepatic Disposition of Drugs and the Utility of Mechanistic Modelling and Simulation

    Författare :Erik Sjögren; Hans Lennernäs; Scott Obach; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hepatic disposition; pharmacokinetics; mechanistic modelling; drug-drug interactions; enzyme kinetics; Vmax; Km; CLint; carrier-mediated transport; active transport; modelling; in vitro-in vivo extrapolation; physiologically based pharmacokinetic model; optimal experimental design; experimental optimization; data analysis optimization; PHARMACY; FARMACI; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; Biopharmaceutics; Biofarmaci;

    Sammanfattning : The elimination of drugs from the body is in many cases performed by the liver. Much could be gained if an accurate prediction of this process could be made early in the development of new drugs. However, for the elimination to occur, the drug molecule needs first to get inside the liver cell. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Membrane transport and the human small intestine : Relation to mucosal protection, intestinal anaphylaxis and nitric oxide

    Författare :Tina W. Knutson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; albumin; bicarbonate secretion; carbonic anhydrase; dopamine; duodenum; histamine; humans; hyaluronan; intestinal anaphylaxis; intestinal obstruction; jejunum; lidocaine; LOC-I-GUT; nitecapone; nitric oxide; potential difference; prostaglandins; segmental intestinal perfusion; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; anestesiologi; Anaesthesiology;

    Sammanfattning : The tightly adherent monolayer of epithelial cells that line the luminal side of the intestine provides a dynamic and highly regulated barrier to the passive and active transport of ions, water and macromolecules. Cathecol-O-methyl transferase inhibition prevents tissue degradation of catecholaminesincluding dopamine and intracellular carbonic anhydrase activity is an important regulator of ion and water transport in the small intestine.
