16. 5-HT1A receptor ligands with putative antidepressant activity : pharmacological studies in the rat
Sammanfattning : Several studies suggest that serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT)IA receptor agonists possess antidepressant activity. Probably these agents exert their therapeutic effect through stimulation of postsynaptic 5-HT,A receptors. LÄS MER
17. Brain galanin sytems and their role in depression-like behaviour
Sammanfattning : The aim of the present thesis was to investigate the role of the neuropeptide galanin and galanin receptor subtypes in behavioural functions with a particular focus on depression-like behaviour. In agreement with its wide distribution in the central nervous system, galanin has been implicated in various functions, including regulation of reproduction, endocrine functions, antinociception, attention, learning and memory as well as regulation of mood. 18. On the mechanisms of action of atypical antipsychotic drugs : an experimental study
Sammanfattning : A majority of schizophrenic patients respond to classical neuroleptic drugs which are believed to act largely via blockade of dopamine (DA) D2 receptors in limbic structures. However, a significant proportion do not respond to conventional D2 receptor blocking drugs or show a rather incomplete therapeutic effect, particularly on negative and cognitive symptoms. LÄS MER
19. Serotonergic aporphine derivatives : Synthesis and structure-activity relationships
Sammanfattning : Novel series of well-characterized and stereochemically pure 11-substituted (R)-aporphine derivatives have been prepared and their interaction with serotonin 5-HT7 and 5-HT1A receptors and dopamine D2A and D1 receptors have been studied. Efficient palladium catalyzed reactions were utilized for the diastereoselective synthesis of atropisomers as well as for the synthesis of several of the other (R)-aporphine derivatives. LÄS MER
20. Functional Models in the Search for Pharmacological Treatment of Urinary Incontinence : The Role of Adrenergic, Cholinergic, and Serotonergic Receptors
Sammanfattning : Stress incontinence and overactive bladder are disorders with a common symptom, urinary incontinence, which is a serious medical and social handicap. Several neurotransmitters regulate the function of the lower urinary tract, including noradrenaline, acetylcholine, and serotonin. LÄS MER
