11. Mesoporous material systems for catalysis and drug delivery
Sammanfattning : Hybrid material systems possess multi-functional properties which make them intriguing for the materials science community since very early dates. However, it is not straightforward to produce such material systems. A smart and efficient approach is necessary to extract the desired properties of each component under the desired conditions. 12. On the Modeling of Porous Media with Emphasis on Localization
Sammanfattning : The mechanics of porous media is nowadays relevant in a broad spectrum of engineering applications. In the case of geomaterials, the description of the mechanical behavior is complicated by the fact that the deformation characteristics involve (strain) localization, which is indeed the main topic of this thesis. 13. Porous Materials from Cellulose Nanofibrils
Sammanfattning : In the first part of this work a novel type of low-density, sponge-like material for the separation of mixtures of oil and water has been prepared by vapour deposition of hydrophobic tri-chloro-silanes on ultra-porous cellulose nanofibril (CNF) aerogels. To achieve this, a highly porous (>99%) robust CNF aerogel with high structural flexibility is first formed by freeze-drying an aqueous suspension of the CNFs. LÄS MER
14. Nuclear magnetic resonance studies of water self-diffusion in porous systems
Sammanfattning : Proton nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) was used to study the self-diffusion of water in porous systems that respond to a change in water content in order to elucidate the porous structure and the properties of the confined water. In the carbohydrate systems cellulose fibers and starch granules, water is free to move throughout the porous objects, albeit with a rate reduced from the value of the bulk liquid, The reduction is related to the tortuosity of the pore space filled by water. 15. Predicting and optimising acoustical and vibrational performance of open porous foams
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the modelling of acoustical and vibrational properties of open cell porous foams in multi-layered structures, especially multi-layered panels. The object is to enable optimisation of the microscopic geometry of the foam with respect to macroscopic quantities such as sound pressure level, surface velocity, total mass or cost. LÄS MER
