  1. 6. Phase Transitions and Phase Formation of Hydrogen in Quasi-2D Lattices

    Författare :Stefan Olsson; Björgvin Hjörvarsson; Yuh Fukai; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; hydrogen; finite-size effects; long-ranged interactions; superlattices; phase transitions; elastic interaction; Fysik; Physics; Fysik;

    Sammanfattning : The role of the dimensionality and strain state of metallic lattices on the phase behavior of dissolved hydrogen was explored. Metallic superlattices with well defined hydrogen absorption potential on the nm scale, were utilized as test systems. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Fuel conversion and ash formation interactions : a thermochemical study on lignocellulosic biomass

    Författare :Anna Strandberg; Markus Broström; Rainer Backman; Christoffer Boman; Maria Zevenhoven; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Char conversion; pyrolysis; devolatilization; ash transformation; biomass; fuel characterization; fuel composition; ash composition; silicate formation; carbonate formation; thermogravimetric analysis; micro-tomography;

    Sammanfattning : Biomass is considered to be CO2 neutral, and to be able to reduce the dependency on fossil fuels the need for expanded and sustainable biomass feedstock is increasing. Ash-related problems are some of the most important aspects of this increasing use of new biomass assortments in thermal energy conversion systems. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Protein-Surfactant Interactions Phase Behaviour and Phase Structure

    Författare :Anna Karin Morén; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Phase equilibria; Protein-surfactant interactions; Gel; Precipitate; Solution; Lysozyme; b-lactoglobulin; Ovalbumin; Bovine serum albumin; Dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride; Sodium alkylsulphates; NMR; Cryo-TEM; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Protein-surfactant interactions in water are investigated by following the phase equilibria for protein-surfactant pairs whose constituents carry both opposite and the same sign of charge. The concentration ranges studied are: 0-20 wt% protein, 0-20 wt% surfactant, and 80-100 wt% water. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Phase-field modeling of diffusion controlled phase transformations

    Författare :Irina Loginova; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :phase-field; dendritic growth; grain boundary; Widmanstaetten plate; solidification;

    Sammanfattning : Diffusion controlled phase transformations are studied bymeans of the phase-field method. Morphological evolution ofdendrites, grains and Widmanst\"atten plates is modeled andsimulated.Growth of dendrites into highly supersaturated liquids ismodeled for binary alloy solidification. Sammanfattning : The thesis concerns polyelectrolyte gels in contact with oppositely charged proteins and surfactant micelles, and includes of four papers (I-IV). In paper I confocal Raman spectroscopy was introduced as a method to trace micelles and investigate the structure of gel-surfactant complexes, in phase separated gel spheres. LÄS MER
