11. Characterization of Substance P (SP) Aminoterminal SP (1-7) Binding in Brain Regions and Spinal Cord of the Male Rat : Studies on the Interaction with Opioid Related Pathways
Sammanfattning : Binding sites for substance P(1-7), SP(1-7) have been identified and characterized for the first time in crude membrane fraction from rat CNS using tritiated ([3H]) SP(1-7) as tracer. These putative receptors were investigated in relation to their affinity for tachykinins, opioid peptides and sigma receptor ligands. LÄS MER
12. Effects of joint cocaine and ethanol on the brain opioid systems
Sammanfattning : Concurrent abuse of cocaine and alcohol is common among human addicts, where 85% of all cocaine users have also been shown to meet the criteria for alcohol dependence. Concurrent abuse of cocaine and alcohol is associated with a more severe dependence and a more pronounced abstinence than using either drug alone. LÄS MER
13. Dynorphin A – Interactions with receptors and the membrane bilayer
Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis concerns the dynorphin neuropeptides, and dynorphin A (DynA) in particular. DynA belongs to the wider class of typical opioid peptides that, together with the opioid receptors, a four-membered family of GPCR membrane proteins, form the opioid system. LÄS MER
14. Genetic differences in neuropathy and opioid responses in rats
Sammanfattning : The studies examined mechanisms and treatments of experimental neuropathic pain with particular emphasis on the differences between rat strains and sub-strains in basal nociceptive sensitivity, development of neuropathic behaviors and sensitivity to opioid analgesia. In order to study the mechanisms that mediate mechanical allodynia (touch-evoked pain) following ischemic nerve injury to the sciatic nerve in rats, the myelinated primary afferents have been examined in the injured and intact nerves. 15. In vitro and postmortem studies of the brain opioid system : association to opiate dependence
Sammanfattning : Opioids such as heroin are highly addictive illicit drugs. The μ opioid receptor (MOR) plays a central role in mediating the effects of opiates and related opioid. LÄS MER
