21. DARPP-32 in the striatum : multiple regulation and physiological role
Sammanfattning : Protein phosphorylation is an important mechanism involved in intracellular signal transduction. The activity of many proteins is affected by their state of phosphorylation, which in turn is determined by the combined activities of protein kinases and protein phosphatases. LÄS MER
22. Interactions between the opioid and serotonin systems in chronic pain : quantitative live cell study by fluorescence cross-correlation spectroscopy (FCCS)
Sammanfattning : Chronic pain is a major health issue worldwide. It enacts considerable suffering on the affected individuals and significantly increases the societal burden, as it is the most common reason why individuals seek sick leave and ask for medical help. LÄS MER
23. The analgesic mechanisms of buprenorphine
Sammanfattning : Buprenorphine, a derivative of thebaine, is a semi-synthetic opiate and a partial p-opioid receptor agonist. Buprenorphine is also a weak kappa-opioid receptor antagonist. Buprenorphine is used clinically as an analgesic and for maintenance therapy of opiate-dependent subjects because it produces limited withdrawal symptoms. LÄS MER
24. Central pain after spinal cord injury : experimental studies with special emphasis on pharmacological treatment
Sammanfattning : Injuries and dysfunctions of the central nervous system can cause central pain which, according to clinical experience, is often refractory to conventional treatments. The present thesis consists of experimental studies on the mechanisms and treatments of central pain using a well-established animal model of central pain after spinal cord injury. LÄS MER
25. Migration of molecules in the brain : focus on the extracellular space and the cerebrospinal fluid
Sammanfattning : Three different molecules and three different experimental models were used to study the migration of molecules in the rat brain: a neurotransmitter- dopamine, an extracellular market- mannitol, and a neuropeptide beta-endorphin. Two models in vivo were used to study the diffusion and migration of molecules: dual-probe rnicrodialysis in the striatum, and direct intrastriatal microinjections followed by cerebrospinal fluid sampling from the cisterna magna.
