  2. 7. Opioids regulate proliferation of neural progenitors. A study on the effects of opioids on adult rat hippocampal progenitors in vitro and in vivo

    Författare :Anders I. Persson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Opioid; brain; hippocampus; rat; neurogenesis; progenitor; stem cell; b-endorphin; calcium; MAPK;

    Sammanfattning : The opioid receptors were among the first pharmacologically described brain receptors. These opioid receptors have thereafter been shown to mediate effects on proliferation and differentiation in both the embryonal and adult central nervous system. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Hemorphins and endomorphins

    Författare :Katarina Sanderson Nydahl; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; Hemorphins; endomorphins; opioid receptors; peptide metabolism; neurogenic inflammation; pain; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; biologisk beroendeforskning; Biological Research on Drug Dependence;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, two newly discovered endogenous opioid peptide families, the hemorphins and endomorphins, are investigated with emphasis on modulation of pain and inflammation. In addition, the presence of hemorphins in human biological fluids as well as the in vitro and in vivo processing ofLVV-hemorphin-7 in blood and brain is investigated. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Activation mechanisms of Class F receptors

    Författare :Shane Christopher Wright; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Our genetic makeup is composed of thousands of genes that code for the proteins involved in all aspects of cellular function. Proteins are molecular machines that dynamically and structurally respond to stimuli. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Molecular Adaptations in the Endogenous Opioid System in Human and Rodent Brain

    Författare :Muhammad Zubair Hussain; Georgy Bakalkin; Anita Hansson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endogenous Opioid System; Dynorphins; Lateralization; Alcohol Dependence; Emotions; Traumatic Brain Injury; Anterior Cingulate Cortex; Dorsal Striatum; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of the thesis were to examine i) whether the endogenous opioid system (EOS) is lateralized in human brain areas involved in processing of emotions and pain; ii) whether EOS responses to unilateral brain injury depend on side of lesion, and iii) whether in human alcoholics, this system is involved in molecular adaptations in brain areas relevant for cognitive control of addictive behavior and habit formation.The main findings were that (1) opioid peptides but not opioid receptors and classic neurotransmitters are markedly lateralized in the anterior cingulate cortex involved in processing of  positive and negative emotions and affective component of pain.
