  1. 1. Brain parenchymal fraction in healthy individuals and in clinical follow-up of multiple sclerosis

    Författare :Mattias Vågberg; Anders Svenningsson; Richard Birgander; Jonathan Gilthorpe; Anne-Marie Landtblom; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Brain parenchymal fraction; Neurofilament light; Glial fibrillary acidic protein; Brain atrophy; Multiple Sclerosis; Clinical follow-up;

    Sammanfattning : Background Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease characterised by inflammatory damage to the central nervous system (CNS). Accumulated CNS injury can be quantified as brain atrophy, definable as a reduction in brain parenchymal fraction (BPF). BPF correlate with disability in MS and is used routinely as an endpoint in clinical trials. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Role of Neuroinflammation in Parkinson's Disease and Related Disorders

    Författare :Edoardo Brandi; Neural plasticitet och reparation; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alpha synuclein; Preformed fibrils; Microglia; Astrocyte; Neuroinflammation; Lipopolysaccharides; Parkinson Disease; Lewy Body Dementia; Multiple system atrophy; Synucleinopathies;

    Sammanfattning : Synucleinopathies are neurodegenerative disorders characterized by intracellular protein aggregates, progressive neurodegeneration, and neuroinflammation. Alpha-synuclein (a-syn) is the principal component of intracellular aggregates and can be modified by several mutations and post-translational modifications (PTMs), which can alter the protein structure affecting its aggregation, toxicity, and ability to spread. 3. 3. Nuclear medicine methods in idiopathic Parkinsonism : pre- and postsynaptic dopamine SPECT

    Författare :Susanna Jakobson Mo; Katrine Åhlström Riklund; Anne Larsson Strömvall; Lars Forsgren; Rimma Axelsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nuclear medicine; SPECT; 123I-FP-Cit; 123I-IBZM; dopamine; parkinsonism; Parkinson’s disease; multiple system atrophy; progressive supranuclear palsy; Radiology; radiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) with dopamine transporter (DAT) and dopamine D2 receptor (D2R) ligands can visualise the integrity of the nigrostriatal dopamine system. Parkinson’s disease (PD) and the atypical parkinsonian diseases (APD), progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) and multiple system atrophy (MSA), have similar symptoms and dopamine depletion, but differ in pharmacological response and prognosis. 4. 4. The biology of cognitive decline and reduced survival in Parkinson disease : prognostic factors in a population-based cohort

    Författare :David C Bäckström; Lars Forsgren; Jan Linder; Niklas Lenfeldt; Jan Aasly; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinson disease; multiple system atrophy; progressive supranuclear palsy; natural history; cognitive impairment; dementia; predictors of mortality; cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers; prospective; population-based; Neurology; neurologi;

    Sammanfattning : Parkinson disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects about 1% of the population over 60 years. The cardinal symptoms are motor disabilities but cognitive decline is also common. About 50% of all persons with PD develop dementia within 10 years after disease onset. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Idiopathic parkinsonism : epidemiology and clinical characteristics of a population-based incidence cohort

    Författare :Jan Linder; Lars Forsgren; Ole-Bjørn Tysnes; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinsonism; Parkinson s disease; Multiple system atrophy; Progressive supranuclear palsy; Incidence; Magnetic resonance tomography; Electromyography; Oculomotor;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Idiopathic parkinsonism is a neurodegenerative syndrome of unknown cause and includes Parkinson’s disease (PD) and atypical parkinsonian disorders. The atypical parkinsonian disorders are: Multiple system atrophy (MSA), progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) and corticobasal degeneration (CBD). LÄS MER
