  1. 6. The role of melanocortin 1 receptor in kidney disease

    Författare :Annika Lindskog Jonsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nephrotic syndrome; proteinuria; adrenocorticotropic hormone; melanocortin 1 receptor; podocytes;

    Sammanfattning : Nephrotic syndrome is a term describing a group of poorly understood glomerular diseases that are responsible for a steadily increasing number of patients requiring active uremic care. Characteristic symptoms of nephrotic syndrome are proteinuria, hypoalbuminemia, hyperlipidemia and peripheral edema, and treatment of these symptoms, rather than their cause, is currently the only option available to the clinician. 2. 7. Integrative Approaches in Shotgun Proteomics : From sample preparation to multifaceted data analysis

    Författare :Mariya Nezhyva; Erik T. Jansson; Per Andrén; Gustaf Christoffersson; Jesper Velgaard Olsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :bottom-up proteomics; thermal proteome profiling; mass-spectrometry imaging; data analysis; melanocortin receptor; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Pharmaceutical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Bottom-up proteomics mass-spectrometry gives an opportunity to shed light on var-ious biological aspects/characteristics such as protein composition, its modifications,interactions, and dynamics. Its applications span a wide range of biological sciencesaiming to eventually answer fundamental disease related questions or evaluate drugperformance and predict adverse effects. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Gene Expression in the Brains of Two Lines of Chicken Divergently Selected for High and Low Body Weight

    Författare :Sojeong Ka; Finn Hallböök; Tom Porter; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; chicken; juvenile body weight; divergent selection; gene expression; DNA microarray; quantitiative RT-PCR; hypothalamus; neural plasticity; melanocortin system; endogenous retrovirus; carnitine palmitoyltransferase-1b; Neurobiology; Neurobiologi; medicinsk utvecklings- och neurobiologi; Developmental Neurosciences;

    Sammanfattning : Artificial divergent selection of chickens for high and low body weight at 8 weeks of age has produced two lines: the high (HWS) and low (LWS) body weight chicken lines. In addition to the difference in body weight, the lines show extreme differences in feeding behaviour and body composition. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Modeling the Interaction Space of Biological Macromolecules: A Proteochemometric Approach : Applications for Drug Discovery and Development

    Författare :Aleksejs Kontijevskis; Jarl Wikberg; Jan Komorowski; Robert Glen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Bioinformatics; proteochemometrics; bioinformatics; chemoinformatics; chemical space; QSAR; retroviral proteases; HIV-1; drug resistance; pharmacogenomics; cytochrome P450; GPCRs; melanocortin receptors; interactome; machine-learning; rough sets; Bioinformatik;

    Sammanfattning : Molecular interactions lie at the heart of myriad biological processes. Knowledge of molecular recognition processes and the ability to model and predict interactions of any biological molecule to any chemical compound are the key for better understanding of cell functions and discovery of more efficacious medicines. 5. 10. Development of Proteochemometrics—A New Approach for Analysis of Protein-Ligand Interactions

    Författare :Maris Lapins; Jarl Wikberg; Johan Gottfries; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Pharmaceutical pharmacology; chemometrics; QSAR; G-protein coupled receptors; Melanocortin receptors; protein-ligand interactions; Farmaceutisk farmakologi;

    Sammanfattning : A new approach to analysis of protein-ligand interactions, termed proteochemometrics, has been developed. Contrary to traditional quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) methods that aim to correlate a description of ligands to their interactions with one particular target protein, proteochemometrics considers many targets simultaneously.
