  1. 16. Molecular Mechanisms of Reward and Aversion

    Författare :Anna Klawonn; David Engblom; Anders Blomqvist; Paul Kenny; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Motivation; Dopamine; Reward; Aversion; Negative affect; Systemic Inflammation; Drug Addiction; Cytokines; Prostaglandin E2; Melanocortin receptor 4; Acetylcholine; Muscarinic M4 receptor;

    Sammanfattning : Various molecular pathways in the brain shape our understanding of good and bad, as well as our motivation to seek and avoid such stimuli. This work evolves around how systemic inflammation causes aversion; and why general unpleasant states such as sickness, stress, pain and nausea are encoded by our brain as undesirable; and contrary to these questions, how drugs of abuse can subjugate the motivational neurocircuitry of the brain. 2. 17. Hormonal Regulation of Neural Stem Cell Proliferation and Fate Determination

    Författare :Karin Brännvall; Dan Lindholm; Sandra Ceccatelli; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; Neural stem cell; Proliferation; Fate determination; Hormones; Anabolic androgenic steroids; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi;

    Sammanfattning : Stem cells have the capacity for both self renewal, and to form all cell types in the body. Interestingly, so called neural stem cells (NSCs) are found in the adult human brain, which is of significance both out of a developmental perspective and from a clinical point of view. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Mapping Genes Affecting Phenotypic Traits in Chicken

    Författare :Susanne Kerje; Leif Andersson; Martien Groenen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; chicken; Quantitative Trait Loci; growth; egg production; epistasis; plumage colour; Extended black; MC1R; Dominant white; PMEL17; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of gene mapping is to understand the underlying genetics of simple and complex traits like plumage colour and growth. This thesis is based on a cross between the wild ancestor of the modern chicken, the red junglefowl, and a White Leghorn line selected for high egg mass. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Classification, Evolution, Pharmacology and Structure of G protein-coupled Receptors

    Författare :Malin C Lagerström; Helgi B. Schiöth; Robert Fredriksson; Anthony J. Harmar; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacology; Classification; Structure; Pharmacology; Evolution; G protein-coupled receptor; Farmakologi; Pharmacological research; Farmakologisk forskning;

    Sammanfattning : G protein-coupled receptors (GPCR) are integral membrane proteins with seven α-helices that translate a remarkable diversity of signals into cellular responses. The superfamily of GPCRs is among the largest and most diverse protein families in vertebrates. LÄS MER

  5. 20. QTL Analysis in the Pig : From the Identification of Quantitative Trait Loci to the Understanding of Molecular Mechanisms

    Författare :Ellen Markljung; Leif Andersson; Göran Andersson; Göran Hjälm; Stefan Marklund; Holger Luthman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Domestic pigs have become very different form the wild ancestors they originate from. Selection for muscle growth and meat quality has made the pig a good model for genetic studies of muscle development.The first part of this thesis presents a genome-wide scan for quantitative trait loci (QTL) in a cross between Landrace and Hampshire pigs.
