  1. 21. Psychiatric and metabolic disturbances in experimental models of Huntington’s disease

    Författare :Sofia Hult Lundh; Translationell neuroendokrinologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Huntington’s disease; huntingtin; hypothalamus; depression; anxiety; metabolism; neuroendocrinology; mouse models; BACHD; rAAV vectors; leptin;

    Sammanfattning : Non-motor symptoms and signs such as metabolic and psychiatric disturbances have been reported to occur early in Huntington’s disease (HD), a fatal neurodegenerative disorder caused by an expanded CAG repeat in the huntingtin gene. However, there is a lack of understanding of the underlying neurobiological mechanisms responsible for the early non-motor features. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Survival of the Tamest : The Domesticated Phenotype in Red Junglefowl Selected for Tameness

    Författare :Rebecca Katajamaa; Per Jensen; Dominic Wright; Ruth C. Newberry; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; domestication; chicken; red junglefowl; tameness; brain size; behaviour; cognition; body size;

    Sammanfattning : Early animal domestication was probably associated with reduced fear of humans. Domestication is a process in which animals adapt to humans and the captive environment provided by humans. Selection on tameness as the only trait has previously been found to generate changes in other phenotypes in different animal species. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Characterization of Impaired Glucose Tolerance - Insulin Sensitivity, Islet Function and Metabolic Risk Factors

    Författare :Hillevi Larsson; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endocrinology; muscle fiber type; androgen activity; proinsulin; glucagon; insulin secretion; insulin sensitivity; Impaired glucose tolerance; type 2 diabetes; sekretion; diabetologi; Endokrinologi; diabetology; secreting systems;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a three-year prospective study on metabolic characteristics of impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and the regulation of insulin sensitivity versus islet function in relation to changes in glucose tolerance. 108 non-diabetic women aged 57-58 years were randomly selected from a population of women born in 1935 with a high prevalence of IGT. 4. 24. Enterostatin - target proteins and intracellular mechanisms. Function in food intake and energy metabolism

    Författare :Karin Berger; Molekylär endokrinologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ATP; energy metabolism; insulin; uncoupling protein; beta-casomorphin; opiate; SK-N-MC; INS-1; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; fat intake; F1F0-ATP synthase; appetite; enterostatin; satiety; obesity;

    Sammanfattning : Hunger and satiety are the results of complex neural events that involve several neurotransmitters and peptides. Enterostatin is an appetite-regulating peptide released in the intestine in response to fat ingestion. Enterostatin specifically decreases fat intake, but has also metabolic effects like inhibition of insulin secretion. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Tryptophan-related Neurotransmission in the Brain: Disturbances Associated with Experimental Hepatic Encephalopathy

    Författare :Peter B F Bergqvist; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; tetrodotoxin; serotonin; release; rat; quinolinic acid; potassium; chloroamphetamine; noradrenaline; neurotransmission; microdialysis; hepatic encephalopathy; fenfluramine; drug safety; dopamine; coma; citalopram; ammonia; calcium; brain; tryptophan; Pharmacological sciences; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : In the present study, L-tryptophan (TRP)-related disturbances in the brain in experimental hepatic encephalopathy (HE) were investigated. The endogenous NMDA-receptor agonist and L-TRP metabolite quinolinic acid (QUIN) has been suggested to be involved in the pathogenesis of HE. LÄS MER
