  1. 1. Postoperative Intrathecal Pain Treatment in Children

    Författare :Karin Hesselgard; Neurokirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pediatri; intensivvård; Pediatrics; Anaesthesiology; intensive care; Anestesiologi; Pain measurement; Intrathecal pain treatment; Children;

    Sammanfattning : Selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) is an effective operations method that successfully decreased the degree of spasticity with long lasting beneficial effects for children with spastic diplegia. Children undergoing SDR are postoperatively in severe pain, a pain related to both the extensive surgical exposure with multilevel laminotomy and the nerve root manipulation. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Studies of the Biology of Intrathecal Treatment in Progressive MS

    Författare :Joakim Bergman; Anders Svenningsson; A. Tommy Bergenheim; Jonathan D. Gilthorpe; Joachim Burman; Magnus Andersson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Progressive Multiple Sclerosis; intrathecal treatment; Ommaya reservoir; anti-CD20 therapy; microdialysis; cerebrospinal fluid; CNS compartments; Progressiv Multipel Skleros; intratekal behandling; Ommaya reservoar; anti-CD20 terapi; mikrodialys; ryggmärgsvätska; sektioner i centrala nervsystemet; Neurology; neurologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, inflammatory, autoimmune disease, affecting the central nervous system (CNS). About 85% of afflicted present with a relapsing-remitting form of the disease (RRMS), for which a breakthrough in treatment was made in 2008 with rituximab, an antibody directed towards CD20, a surface antigen on B-cells. 3. 3. What makes a patient satisfied with intrathecal baclofen treatment for spasticity : Expectations and experiences

    Författare :Stina Gunnarsson; Kersti Samuelsson; Dag Lemming; Siw Alehagen; Björn Gerdle; Anna Danielsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Interview; Intrathecal baclofen; Multivariate analyses; Occupational performance; Optimism; Pain intensity; Preexpectations; Satisfaction; Self-efficacy; Spasticity.;

    Sammanfattning : Patients often report reduced spasticity and/or pain, improved function and comfort, and a high level of satisfaction after treatment with intrathecal baclofen (ITB). However, dissatisfaction, complications and unmet goals are also reported. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Antiretroviral treatment of HIV-1 in the central nervous system

    Författare :Aylin Yilmaz; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HIV-1; cerebrospinal fluid; antiretroviral treatment; lopinavir; saquinavir; nelfinavir; neopterin; beta-2-microglobulin; HIV-1 RNA; IgG index; blood-brain barrier; albumin ratio; ultra-ultra sensitive PCR;

    Sammanfattning : HIV-1 invades the central nervous system (CNS) early in the infectious course. It establishes a chronic progressive infection, and triggers an intrathecal immune response. If left untreated, a majority of patients will develop neurological complications, caused by opportunistic pathogens or HIV-1 itself. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Intrathecal adenosine for treatment of acute pain : safety assessments and evaluation in experimental, surgical and labour pain

    Författare :Kerstin Rane Lindgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Adenosine; intrathecal; central sensitisation; neurotoxicity; spinal cord blood flow; analgesia; anaesthetic requirement; postoperative pain; labour pain.;

    Sammanfattning : Adenosine is an endogenous compound present in all cells in the body with a wide range of physiological effects. Exogenous administration of adenosine is used clinically as an antiarrytmic agent and as a vasodilator. LÄS MER
