  1. 1. Chronic Pelvic Pain Persisting after Childbirth : Diagnosis and Implications for Treatment

    Författare :Thomas Torstensson; Per Kristiansson; Margaretha Eriksson; Siv Mørkved; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chronic pelvic pain; corticosteroid; injection; pain mapping; pelvic pain; physical function; physiotherapy; pregnancy; randomised controlled trial; referred pain; sensitisation; Physiotherapy; Sjukgymnastik fysioterapi;

    Sammanfattning : Objectives: To explore the pain mechanism and the origin of the pain and to evaluate a short-term pain relief treatment in women suffering from CPP persisting after childbirth in order to enable physiotherapeutic intervention.Material and methods: Thirty-six parous women with chronic pelvic pain persisting after childbirth were recruited at the Department of Physiotherapy, SundsvallHospital and by advertisements in newspapers and 29 parous women without chronic pelvic pain were recruited from an organized gynaecological screening at a midwifery surgery. 2. 2. Plasticity in mice nociceptive spinal circuits -role of cell adhesion molecules

    Författare :Jonas Thelin; Neurofysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Long term-potentiation; Cell adhesion molecule; Pain; Somatosensory imprinting; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Nociceptive withdrawal reflex; Species differences; Central sensitisation; Mouse strains; Spinal cord;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: To understand the function of the genes and their products in the pain system, studies will have to deal with complex issues related to intercellular communication, e.g. plasticity in neuronal networks. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Intrathecal adenosine for treatment of acute pain : safety assessments and evaluation in experimental, surgical and labour pain

    Författare :Kerstin Rane Lindgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Adenosine; intrathecal; central sensitisation; neurotoxicity; spinal cord blood flow; analgesia; anaesthetic requirement; postoperative pain; labour pain.;

    Sammanfattning : Adenosine is an endogenous compound present in all cells in the body with a wide range of physiological effects. Exogenous administration of adenosine is used clinically as an antiarrytmic agent and as a vasodilator. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Pain influences somatosensory perception : an experimental and clinical study

    Författare :Ann-Sofie Leffler; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Muscle pain; referred pain; hypoaesthesia; allodynia; musculoskeletal; pain; sensory abnormality; quantitative sensory testing; trapezius myalgia; somatosensory perception; perception thresholds; diffuse noxious inhibitory controls DNIC ; central hyperexcitability; tourniquet test; cold-pressor test.;

    Sammanfattning : The underlying mechanisms maintaining long-term pain localised to musculoskeletal structures and joints are not infrequently unknown. In routine clinical work with such patients insufficient attention has been paid to phenomena indicating altered excitability of the central nervous system (CNS). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Modulation of pain by immune factors : a study on interferon-g and its receptor in nociceptive transmission

    Författare :Kristina S Vikman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cytokines; interferon-gamma; dorsal horn; hypersensitivity; nociceptive transmission; pain; GluR1; AMPA receptor; disinhibition; spontaneous activity; primary cell culture; two-compartment model; spinal cord.;

    Sammanfattning : Immune cytokines have been implicated as important neuromodulators, contributing to neuronal plasticity both in the adult and developing nervous system. In addition, they have been assigned a potential role in the generation of pathological pain, which may occur as a severe symptom following disease states in the nervous system. LÄS MER
