  1. 21. Selenoproteins in the Bovine Mammary Gland. Regulation of mRNA and Protein Expression

    Författare :Katharina Bruzelius; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Livsmedelsteknik; Food and drink technology; metabolism; Biokemi; Metabolism; Biochemistry; Naturvetenskap; milk; Natural science; cancer; prolactin; insulin; hydrocortisone; retinoic acid; MAC-T; northern blot; two-dimensional electrophoresis; bovine mammary gland; selenium; selenoprotein;

    Sammanfattning : Selenium is a micronutrient that is essential for many important life processes due to the action of the specific selenoproteins containing one or more of the 21st amino acid, selenocysteine. Twenty-five selenoprotein genes have been found in the human genome but the function of many of them is not yet known. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Methods for selection and optimisation of radiotherapy and early therapy evaluation in breast cancer

    Författare :Tomas Jansson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; Breast cancer; human; radiotherapy; multi-leaf collimator; breast-conservingsurgery; local recurrence; p53; positron emission tomography; chemotherapy evaluation; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; Oncology; onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : Adjuvant systemic therapy for breast cancer, the most common malignancy in females, increases survival and this has recently also been demonstrated for postoperative radiotherapy. The aims of this study were to develop an optimised radiotherapeutic technique for postoperative treatment, to analyse the association between p53 status in node-negative patients and radiotherapy, to investigate the incidence of in-breast relapses after conservative surgery and radiotherapy and to determine if positron emissiontomography could be useful for early evaluation of polychemotherapy. 3. 23. Growth factor signaling in the breast tumor microenvironment

    Författare :Matteo Bocci; Avdelningen för translationell cancerforskning; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Breast cancer; Tumor microenvironment; Angiogenesis; Cancer-associated fibroblasts; PDGF-C; ALK1;

    Sammanfattning : Cancer represents a collection of malignancies characterized by an aberrant expansion of cells. This unrestrained growth is the result of the acquisition of several pro-survival features and the evasion of cellular fail-safe mechanisms, collectively known as the hallmarks of cancer. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Prognostic factors in periampullary adenocarcinoma. A retrospective study over an 11 year period

    Författare :Jacob Elebro; Tumörmikromiljö; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Periampullary adenocarcinoma; Pancreatic cancer; bile duct cancer; ampullary adenocarcinoma; duodenal adenocarcinoma; Immunohistochemestry; prognosis;

    Sammanfattning : Periampullary adenocarcinoma, including pancreatic cancer, has a poor prognosis that has not improved in the last decades. Therefore, in order to find more effective treatment regimens, it is necessary to gain more insight into the biology and clinical behaviour of these tumours. LÄS MER

  5. 25. The origin of symmetry in the metabolism of cancer – From systems biology to translational medicine

    Författare :Francesco Gatto; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cancer; systems biology; biological networks; convergent evolution; omics; metabolism; bioinformatics;

    Sammanfattning : Why do not we have a cure for cancer yet? Cancer is the malady of the century, the most intensely studied disease of all time. The question is puzzling. It assumes that cancer is a single entity that we can target and eradicate. LÄS MER
