  1. 1. Conifer Evolution, from Demography and Local Adaptation to Evolutionary Rates : Examples from the Picea genus

    Författare :Jun Chen; Martin Lascoux; Ulf Lagercrantz; Matt Olson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Speciation; Demographics; clinal variation; convergent evolution; transcriptome; small regulatory RNA; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär funktionsgenomik; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Functional Genomics; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Genetics; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Evolutionary process can be inferred at three different levels: the species level, the population level and the molecular level. In this thesis, I applied approaches at these three levels and aimed to get a comprehensive picture of conifer evolution, from speciation and demography to geographic variation and local adaptation, and then to the molecular evolution of proteins and small regulatory RNAs. 2. 2. Evolutionary trajectories of Klebsiella pneumoniae : From experimental biofilm evolution to a hospital outbreak

    Författare :Greta Zaborskytė; Linus Sandegren; Vaughn S. Cooper; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Klebsiella pneumoniae; evolution; experimental evolution; biofilms; infection; bacterial pathogens; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Bacterial evolution is closely intertwined with our lives. As their hosts, we shape how bacteria evolve by imposing numerous selective pressures during the time bacteria spend in our bodies. As a result, they adapt in various ways to colonize us or infect us better. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Evolution and host-specific adaptations of Legionella pneumophila

    Författare :Anaísa B. Moreno; Lionel Guy; Dan I. Andersson; Fredrik Söderbom; Alexander W. Ensminger; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Evolution; Legionella pneumophila; host-adaptation; experimental evolution; Acanthamoeba castellanii; transfection; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : How bacteria evolve pathogenic traits is shaped by their communities and environments. Legionella pneumophila is ubiquitous in aquatic habitats, where it persists by replicating within a broad range of protozoan hosts. Using the same mechanisms, L. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Genomic studies of mating system variation in flowering plants

    Författare :Juanita Gutiérrez-Valencia; Tanja Slotte; Magne Friberg; Mario Vallejo-Marín; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mating system evolution; cross- and self-fertilization; distyly; supergenes; complex phenotypic polymorphism; convergent evolution; homostyly; loss-of-function mutation; intrasexual competition; pollen; purifying selection; Linum; Arabis alpina; Ecology and Evolution; ekologi och evolution;

    Sammanfattning : The striking diversity of reproductive strategies that flowering plants exhibit remains one of the most intriguing conundrums in evolutionary biology. Pollination-related traits and mating system strategies have a major impact on the processes shaping plant evolution through their effects on genetic diversity and selection. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Evolution of biological systems linked to complex cell architectures in Planctomycetota

    Författare :Emil Hägglund; Siv Andersson; Damien Devos; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Planctomcyetota; Cellular complexity; Gemmataceae; Phagocytocis; Serine Threonine kinase; Anammox; Hydrazine Synthase; Hydroxylamine oxidoreductase; Heme biosynthesis; Phylogenetics; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär evolution; Biology with specialization in Molecular Evolution;

    Sammanfattning : The eukaryotic cells have a nucleus and membrane-enclosed organelles for functions such as energy production, whereas the prokaryotic cells have a cell wall but no intracellular membrane-bound structures. Species of the Planctomycetota phylum are classified as bacteria but have diverse and complex cell architectures. LÄS MER
