1. Nuclear magnetic resonance and microcirculation: The influence of pulsatile brain-tissue motion on measurements of intravoxel incoherent motion and assessment of haemodynamics using exo- and endogenous tracers
Sammanfattning : In this project, the potential of magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and spectroscopy in studies of microcirculation and haemodynamics was evaluated. The spatial and temporal characteristics of human pulsatile brain-tissue movements in healthy individuals, relevant for the understanding of the cerebrospinal-fluid (CSF) circulation and the pathogenesis of hydrocephalus, were thoroughly investigated. 2. Language ability in patients with low-grade glioma - detecting signs of subtle dysfunction
Sammanfattning : Background: Low-grade glioma (LGG) is a slow-growing brain tumour often situated in or near areas involved in language and/or cognitive functions. Consequently, there is a risk that patients develop language impairments due to tumour growth or surgical resection. LÄS MER
3. Inverse Mathematical Models for Brain Tumour Growth
Sammanfattning : We study the following well-established model of reaction-diffusion type for brain tumour growth:This equation describes the change over time of the normalised tumour cell density u as a consequence of two biological phenomena: proliferation and diffusion. We discuss a mathematical method for the inverse problem of locating the brain tumour source (origin) based on the reaction-diffusion model. 4. Academic Performance in Swedish Ninth Grade Students Treated for Brain Tumours
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate how children in Sweden treated for brain tumours performed in their ninth year at school compared with matched controls. The studies investigated grades and results from national tests in the theoretical subjects of Swedish, English, and mathematics; grades in the practical and aesthetic subjects of art, crafts, music, home and consumer studies, physical education and health; and the frequency of delayed graduation and qualification for school years 10-12 (corresponding to upper-secondary school or high school). 5. Consequences of brain tumours from the perspective of the patients and of their next of kin
Sammanfattning : A disease has consequences not only for the afflicted person but also for those who interact with him or her. A low-grade glioma is a brain tumour whose regarding its psychosocial implications for adult patients and their next of kin has received little attention in the literature. LÄS MER
