  1. 1. From Motion to Movements : Revelations by the Infant EEG

    Författare :Pär Nyström; Claes von Hofsten; Riitta Hari; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Psychology; infant; brain; EEG; mirror neurons; ERP; ICA; MNS; Psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : The introduction of high density EEG (hd-EEG) nets for easy application on subjects of all ages has improved the possibilities to investigate the development of the infant neurophysiology. This dissertation consists of three studies (I – III) that investigate the visual motion system and mirror neuron system of the infant, and methodological sections that outline the bioelectrical background and the characteristics of the methods used. 2. 2. Physical Modeling of Brain and Head Kinematics

    Författare :Johan Ivarsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; brain injury; skull base; rotational acceleration; physical models; lateral ventricles; head kinematics; padding materials; sulci; free motion headform; brain kinematics;

    Sammanfattning : The development of head injury criteria and countermeasures for head protection requires understanding of how different factors affect brain and head kinematics. In this thesis, 2D physical models of the human head were developed and used to evaluate how various factors affect brain kinematics during angular head kinematics. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Motion and Emotion : Functional In Vivo Analyses of the Mouse Basal Ganglia

    Författare :Emma Arvidsson; Åsa Wallén-Mackenzie; Cecilia Flores; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Dopamine; Basal Ganglia; Reward System; In Vivo Chronoamperometry; Optogenetics; Deep Brain Stimulation; Parkinson’s Disease; Addiction; Glutamate; Vesicular Glutamate Transporter; VGLUT2; Sex; Age; Subthalamic Nucleus; Striatum; Nucleus Accumbens; Ventral Tegmental Area;

    Sammanfattning : A major challenge in the field of neuroscience is to link behavior with specific neuronal circuitries and cellular events. One way of facing this challenge is to identify unique cellular markers and thus have the ability to, through various mouse genetics tools, mimic, manipulate and control various aspects of neuronal activity to decipher their correlation to behavior. 4. 4. Nuclear magnetic resonance and microcirculation: The influence of pulsatile brain-tissue motion on measurements of intravoxel incoherent motion and assessment of haemodynamics using exo- and endogenous tracers

    Författare :Ronnie Wirestam; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diagnostic radiology; cortical activation; diffusion; tumor; tumour; ischemic stroke; ischaemic stroke; tracer kinetics; bolus tracking; phase mapping; brain motion; intracranial dynamics; blood flow; haemodynamics; vascularity; MRS; perfusion; MRI; magnetic resonance; Clinical physics; radiology; tomography; medical instrumentation; Klinisk fysiologi; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering;

    Sammanfattning : In this project, the potential of magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and spectroscopy in studies of microcirculation and haemodynamics was evaluated. The spatial and temporal characteristics of human pulsatile brain-tissue movements in healthy individuals, relevant for the understanding of the cerebrospinal-fluid (CSF) circulation and the pathogenesis of hydrocephalus, were thoroughly investigated. 5. 5. Knee function, knee proprioception and related brain activity following anterior cruciate ligament injury

    Författare :Andrew Strong; Charlotte Häger; Eva Tengman; Divya Srinivasan; Eleni Kapreli; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; anterior cruciate ligament; knee; proprioception; joint position sense; kinematics; injury prevention; sports; functional magnetic resonance imaging; brain; reliability; validity; sjukgymnastik; Physiotherapy; Sports Medicine; idrottsmedicin; rehabiliteringsmedicin; Rehabilitation Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Injury of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) may have negative effects on the short- and long-term function and proprioception of the knee joint. However, existing tests of knee function are often sports-related and less relevant for assessment in the very long term and there remains no ‘gold standard’ test of knee proprioception. LÄS MER
