  1. 21. Towards Personalized Cancer Therapy : New Diagnostic Biomarkers and Radiosensitization Strategies

    Författare :Diana Spiegelberg; Marika Nestor; Bo Stenerlöw; Johan Lennartson; Theodosia Maina-Nock; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; tumor targeting; radionuclide targeting; HSP90 inhibition; AT13387; radiosensitization; molecular imaging; combination treatment; EGFR; CD44v6; Biomedical Radiation Science; Biomedicinsk strålningsvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the evaluation of biomarkers for radio-immunodiagnostics and radio-immunotherapy and on radiosensitization strategies after HSP90 inhibition, as a step towards more personalized cancer medicine. There is a need to develop new tracers that target cancer-specific biomarkers to improve diagnostic imaging, as well as to combine treatment strategies to potentiate synergistic effects. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Development of Models, Methods, and Materiel for Deep Tissue Imaging using Light, Ultrasound, and Spectral-Hole Burning

    Författare :David Hill; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; biomedical imaging; ultrasound optical tomography; ultrasound-modulated optical tomography; acousto-optical tomography; Monte Carlo light transport; spectral-hole-burning filters; rare-earth-ion doped crystals; stoichiometric lithium niobate;

    Sammanfattning : The medical imaging technique called “ultrasound optical tomography” (UOT) entails light scattered in tissue that is given spatial information by interacting with an ultrasound field, thus allowing for molecular information to be imaged with ultrasonic resolution. This thesis discusses how UOT can be implemented, with most attention put toward the implementation using spectral-hole-burning filters (SHF) in rare-earth-ion-doped crystals. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Cerebral arterial pulsatility imaging using 4D flow MRI : methodological development and applications in brain aging

    Författare :Tomas Vikner; Anders Wåhlin; Anders Eklund; Jan Malm; Lars Nyberg; Susanne Schnell; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Magnetic resonance imaging; 4D flow MRI; medical image analysis; cerebral hemodynamics; arterial pulsatility; DCE MRI; blood-brain barrier; white matter lesions; perivascular spaces; cerebral small vessel disease; hippocampus; cognition; aging; biomedicinsk strålningsvetenskap; Biomedical Radiation Science;

    Sammanfattning : 4D flow magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is increasingly recognizedas a versatile tool to assess arterial and venous hemodynamics. Cerebral arterial pulsatility is typically assessed by analyzing flow waveforms over the cardiac cycle, where flow amplitude is a function of cardiac output, central arterial stiffness, and cerebrovascular resistance and compliance. 4. 24. Image Processing and Analysis Methods for Biomedical Applications

    Författare :Eva Breznik; Robin Strand; Filip Malmberg; Joel Kullberg; Håkan Ahlström; Alejandro Frangi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Multiple comparisons; image segmentation; image retrieval; deep learning; medical image analysis; magnetic resonance imaging; whole-body imaging; Computerized Image Processing; Datoriserad bildbehandling;

    Sammanfattning : With new technologies and developments medical images can be acquired more quickly and at a larger scale than ever before. However, increased amount of data induces an overhead in the human labour needed for its inspection and analysis. LÄS MER

  5. 25. The Non-Invasive Liver Biopsy : Determining Hepatic Function in Diffuse and Focal LiverDisease

    Författare :Mikael Forsgren; Peter Lundberg; Gunnar Cedersund; Bengt Norén; Olof Dahlqvist Leinhard; Steven Sourbron; Linköpings universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : The liver is one of the largest organs within the human body and it handles many vital tasks such as nutrient processing, toxin removal, and synthesis of important proteins. The number of people suffering from chronic liver disease is on the rise, likely due to the present ‘western’ lifestyle. LÄS MER
