  1. 6. Crosstalk between Inflammation and Coagulation in Acute Pancreatitis - Experimental and Clinical Studies

    Författare :Ellen Andersson; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; inflammation; acute pancreatitis; active site inactivated factor VII; bleeding; coagulation; factor VII; FVIIai; hemorrhagic complications; hemorrhage; interleukin-6; MIP-2; nuclear factor kappa B; tissue factor;

    Sammanfattning : In various inflammatory conditions a close interplay between inflammation and coagulation is known to exist, where coagulation factor VII (FVII) and tissue factor (TF) are considered to be pivotal players. In this thesis the crosstalk between inflammation and coagulation in acute pancreatitis (AP) has been investigated. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Modulation of the HPA axis alters the sensitivity of the cochlea to acoustic trauma

    Författare :Yeasmin Tahera; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :HPA axis; corticosterone; glucocorticoid receptor; NFêB; spiral ganglion neurons; cochlea; acoustic trauma; paraventricular nucleus;

    Sammanfattning : The hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis (HPA axis) regulates nearly all neuroendocrine responses of the body. An active HPA axis is crucial to maintaining homeostasis. An altered reactivity of the HPA axis can affect several physiological systems including the auditory system. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Role and mechanism of estrogen receptor beta in the ovary and colon

    Författare :Madeleine Birgersson; Cecilia Williams; Amena Archer; Claudia Kutter; Eduardo Villablanca; David Moore; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicinsk teknologi; Medical Technology;

    Sammanfattning : Estrogen regulates a variety of important physiological functions in both males and females, where the regulation of female reproduction and the development of sexual organs are typical examples. The effects of estrogen are predominantly exerted via signaling through the two nuclear receptors estrogen receptor α (ERα) and β (ERβ), or the membrane G protein-coupled estrogen receptor 1 (GPER1). 4. 9. Epigenetic Regulation of Gene Transcription in Hematopoietic Tumors

    Författare :Marina Tshuikina Wiklander; Fredrik Öberg; Kenneth Nilsson; Ugo Testa; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; IRF family; ICSBP IRF8; epigenetics; ATRA; TNFα; histone modifications; methylation; transcription; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD;

    Sammanfattning : Epigenetic modifications were shown to play an essential role in tumorigenesis. Epigenetic mechanisms can alter transcription in several ways, through DNA methylation and/or through histone modification. DNA methylation at the TSS (transcriptional start site) has been implicated in tumor development and gene silencing. LÄS MER

  5. 10. A peripheral immune response in Huntington's disease and delineation of its importance in disease pathology

    Författare :Anna Magnusson-Lind; Biomarkörer vid hjärnsjukdomar; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Huntington s disease; peripheral symptoms; immune response; muscle atrophy; cytokines; gene expression; JAK STAT; NFkB; IL-6; TNF-alpha;

    Sammanfattning : Huntington’s disease (HD) is a fatal, hereditary disease for which there is no cure. It is caused by a mutation in a gene called huntingtin. HD is a so-called neurodegenerative disease, where there is a loss of neurons in areas of the brain that control body movements. This results in uncontrolled dance-like movements (chorea). LÄS MER
