11. Development of Methods for Measuring Protein C Inhibitor and Antithrombin: Use of Monoclonal Antibodies against the Reactive Center Loop-Inserted Forms of the Serpins
Sammanfattning : Protein C inhibitor (PCI) and antithrombin (AT) are serine protease inhibitors (serpins) that are involved in the regulation of coagulation. Like other inhibitory serpins, PCI and AT adopt different structural conformations that are related to their functions. LÄS MER
12. Lung function measured with SPECT in infants and children with bronchopulmonary dysplasia : correlation with respiratory management and clinical grading
Sammanfattning : Chronic lung disease, bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is a common and severe complication among extremely preterm born infants and infants with lung hypoplasia. Clinical grading of BPD is performed at 36 weeks postmenstrual age (or 56 days of age in moderately preterm infants) based on the need for supplemental oxygen. LÄS MER
13. Formation and Dynamics of Molecular Excitons and their Fingerprints in Nonlinear Optical Spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : An efficient transfer of energy in molecular systems has proven to be of fundamental importance both in nature and industrial applications. The ability of molecules to work together forming collective excitations, so-called excitons, plays a key role in for example the extraordinary fast energy transfer involved in the first steps of photosynthesis. 14. Forskarbloggar: Vetenskaplig kommunikation och kunskapsproduktion i bloggosfären
Sammanfattning : It is the aim of this thesis to contribute to a research-based understanding of researchers’ use of blogs as a part of scholarly communication. The following research questions guide the investigation: (1) How are scholarly blogs constructed and used as sociotechnical systems in scholarly communication? (2) Which roles do scholarly blogs play in relation to other forms of scholarly communication? (3) Which expressions of researchers’ relations to the public emerge in scholarly blogs? Four separate research articles make up the main body of the thesis. LÄS MER
15. Understanding the urban ecosystem : interactions between plants, animals, and people
Sammanfattning : Cities are the pinnacle of human change to the environment, creating unique types of ecosystems which present many challenges to local organisms: habitat fragmentation, introduced species, and various pollutants. Being crucibles of anthropogenic effects, urban ecosystems offer opportunities to understand how humans impact nature. LÄS MER
