16. Clinical and Experimental Studies on Inflammatory Bowel Disease with special emphasis on Collagenous Colitis
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes studies in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and collagenous colitis (CC). We investigated mucosal eosinophil and neutrophil granulocytes and T-cells involved in the inflammatory processes and aimed at determining whether these processes are reflected in the faecal (F) contents of specific proteins secreted by cells in the intestinal mucosa. 17. NO Effect on Inflammatory Reaction in Extracorporeal Circulation : Ex vivo Studies
Sammanfattning : Nitric oxide (NO) is expressed in inflammatory tissues. However, NO effects are controversial in inflammation; NO is described as acting in a dose dependent manner and possess both pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory properties. LÄS MER
18. Immunological Mechanisms and Natalizumab Treatment in Multiple Sclerosis : Studies on lymphocytes, inflammatory markers and magnetic resonance spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory, demyelinating disease of the central nervous system (CNS), and a frequent cause of neurological disability among young adults. In addition to focal inflammatory demyelinated lesions, diffuse white matter pathology as well as a neurodegenerative component with accumulating axonal damage and gliosis have been demonstrated and contribute to MS disease characteristics. 19. Preterm birth : parents' experiences, affect, stress and inflammatory markers
Sammanfattning : Preterm birth (PTB), before 37 completed weeks of gestation, is the principal risk factor for neonatal morbidity and mortality. In Sweden about 5.6% of pregnant women deliver preterm. The etiology of PTB is not fully understood, but it has been suggested that the underlying mechanisms could have both biological and psychosocial origins. LÄS MER
20. Biological Aspects of Peripartum Depression
Sammanfattning : Peripartum depression affects around 12% of women in pregnancy and postpartum, and about 2–3% of European pregnant women use antidepressants, mostly selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). An increased risk of poor pregnancy outcomes has been described in women with antenatal depression and SSRI treatment during pregnancy. LÄS MER
