1. Clinical and experimental studies in corticosteroid contact allergy
Sammanfattning : Corticosteroids are anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative substances that also can induce sensitization, mainly through skin contact. In a sensitized individual, it can be hard to disclose the contact allergy at patch testing because the anti-inflammatory effect may mask the allergic contact reaction. LÄS MER
2. Bile Acid Induced Diarrhoea Pathophysiological and Clinical Aspects
Sammanfattning : A common cause for referral to gastroenterologists is chronic watery diarrhoea. Approximately 40% of these patients have idiopathic bile acid malabsorption (BAM) ? a condition with unknown aetiology. The 75SeHCAT test, which correlates inversely with faecal excretion and hepatic synthesis of bile acids, is used to diagnose BAM. LÄS MER
3. Rhinomanometry in clinical use. A tool in the septoplasty decision making process
Sammanfattning : Subjective nasal obstruction is a common chronic complaint caused by mucosal disease, skeletal abnormality or a combination of both. The challenge is to determine the main cause and to decide whether the intervention should be medical or surgical. LÄS MER
4. IgA Nephropathy – Mucosal Immunity and Treatment Options
Sammanfattning : In the present studies we have explored the link between food hypersensitivity and IgA nephropathy (IgAN) and evaluated treatment options in primary and recurrent disease. Approximately one third of our IgAN patients had a rectal mucosal sensitivity to gluten, as demonstrated by increased local mucosal nitric oxide production and/or myeloperoxidase release after gluten challenge. 5. Clinical and Experimental Studies on Inflammatory Bowel Disease with special emphasis on Collagenous Colitis
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes studies in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and collagenous colitis (CC). We investigated mucosal eosinophil and neutrophil granulocytes and T-cells involved in the inflammatory processes and aimed at determining whether these processes are reflected in the faecal (F) contents of specific proteins secreted by cells in the intestinal mucosa.
