  1. 1. Clinical and Experimental Studies on Inflammatory Bowel Disease with special emphasis on Collagenous Colitis

    Författare :Michael Wagner; Marie Carlson; Maria Lampinen; Per Sangfelt; Erik Hertervig; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Collagenous colitis; inflammatory bowel disease; ulcerative colitis; Crohn´s disease; faecal markers; eosinophil; T-cells; ECP; EPX; MPO; calprotectin; flowcytometry; chromogranin A; chromogranin B; secretoneurin; budesonide; Gastroenterology; Gastroenterologi; Medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes studies in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and collagenous colitis (CC). We investigated mucosal eosinophil and neutrophil granulocytes and T-cells involved in the inflammatory processes and aimed at determining whether these processes are reflected in the faecal (F) contents of specific proteins secreted by cells in the intestinal mucosa. 2. 2. Studies of neuropeptides in pancreatic beta cell function with special emphasis on islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP)

    Författare :Ella Karlsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; alpha cell; amylin; beta cell; chromogranin; growth; IAPP; insulin; islet amyloid polypeptide; leptin; NOD mice; pancreastatin; pancreatic islet; proliferation; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Sammanfattning : The presence of protein amyloid in pancreas and its association to diabetes was first described 100 years ago in 1901, but was not identified as Islet Amyloid Polypeptide (IAPP) until 1986. The aim of the present work was to determine the role of the beta cell hormone, IAPP, in normal pancreatic islet physiology and during early disturbances of islet function. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Effect of Cholecystokinin-B/Gastrin Receptor Antagonists on Rat Stomach ECL Cells

    Författare :Xi-Qin Ding; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pharmacognosy; Pharmacological sciences; vävnadskultur; histokemi; cytokemi; Histologi; tissue culture; histochemistry; gastrin; cholecystokinin CCK receptors; ECL cells; CCK-B gastrin receptor antagonists; histidine decarboxylase HDC ; histamine; pancreastatin; chromogranin A CGA ; gastric acid secretion.; cytochemistry; Histology; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : The histamine- and pancreastatin- containing ECL cells in the acid-producing mucosa of the rat stomach operate under the control of circulating gastrin. The present work examines how cholecystokinin (CCK)-B/gastrin receptors regulate the activity of the ECL cells. LÄS MER

  4. 4. On the Diagnostics of Neuroblastoma : Clinical and Experimental Studies

    Författare :Kleopatra Georgantzi; Åke Jakobson; Ingrid Øra; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Neuroendocrine; Immunohistochemistry; Urinary Catecholamine Metabolites; Markers; Outcome;

    Sammanfattning : Neuroblastoma (NB) is one of the most common childhood cancers. Patients with low stage tumor have high survival rate, while those with advanced stage and/or unfavorable molecular biology have poor prognosis. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Isolation and characterization of lipid-associated and neurosecretory polypeptides

    Författare :Margareta Stark; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Lipid-interacting proteins play important roles in all living organisms. This thesis focuses on isolation and characterization of an enzyme in the triacylglycerol biosynthesis (phosphatidic acid phosphatase, PAP), hydrophobic polypeptides in bile, and polypeptides in cerebrospinal fluid.
