  1. 31. Risk Talk : On Communicating Benefits and Harms in Health Care

    Författare :Mikael Hoffmann; Karin Kjellgren; Mats Hammar; Johan Ahlner; Bengt Mattson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; risk; communication; menopause; hormone replacement therapy; physician-patient relations; Clinical pharmacology; Klinisk farmakologi;

    Sammanfattning : One of the most critical elements in empowering the patient, and ensuring concordance, is communication of the possible benefits and harms of different actions in health care. Risk assessment is a complex task due both to the different interpretations of the concept of risk, and the common lack of hard facts. LÄS MER

  2. 32. 5-HT2A : a serotonin receptor with a possible role in joint diseases

    Författare :Anders Kling; Solbritt Rantapää-Dahlqvist; Carl-Olav Stiller; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; 5-HT2A serotonin receptor; serotonin; rheumatoid arthritis; adverse drug reaction; HTR2A; glucocorticoids; klinisk farmakologi; Clinical Pharmacology;

    Sammanfattning : BackgroundSerotonin (5-HT), an amino acid derivative and neurotransmitter, has for long been studied in relation to inflammation. It is an endogenous ligand for several different types of serotonin receptors. The serotonin receptor 5-HT2A has been reported to have a role in the pathophysiology of arthritis in animal experiment models. LÄS MER

  3. 33. Vardenafil and methylarginines in pulmonary hypertension

    Författare :Anna Sandqvist; Gerhard Wikström; Jörn Schneede; Amrita Ahluwalia; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; vardenafil; pulmonary hypertension; pharmacokinetics; haemodynamics; right heart catheterization; adenosine; dimethylarginines; phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors; endothelin receptor antagonists; klinisk farmakologi; Clinical Pharmacology;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a rare condition characterized by endothelial dysfunction and vascular remodelling, leading to increased pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) and right ventricular heart failure. Endothelial dysfunction is associated with an imbalance between vasoconstrictor compounds, such as endothelin and thromboxane A2, and vasodilator compounds, such as prostacyclin and nitric oxide (NO). 4. 34. Vasodilator actions of EDHF and anandamide

    Författare :David Andersson; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; vanilloid receptors; afferent neurons; anandamide; cannabinoids; potassium channels; hyperpolarization; vasodilation; Vascular endothelium; arteries; airways; Pharmacological sciences; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Vasodilator responses to endothelium-derived hyperpolarizing factor (EDHF) and anandamide in isolated arteries were investigated. A combination of the potassium channel blockers charybdotoxin and apamin inhibits EDHF-mediated relaxations. LÄS MER

  5. 35. Tryptophan-related Neurotransmission in the Brain: Disturbances Associated with Experimental Hepatic Encephalopathy

    Författare :Peter B F Bergqvist; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; tetrodotoxin; serotonin; release; rat; quinolinic acid; potassium; chloroamphetamine; noradrenaline; neurotransmission; microdialysis; hepatic encephalopathy; fenfluramine; drug safety; dopamine; coma; citalopram; ammonia; calcium; brain; tryptophan; Pharmacological sciences; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : In the present study, L-tryptophan (TRP)-related disturbances in the brain in experimental hepatic encephalopathy (HE) were investigated. The endogenous NMDA-receptor agonist and L-TRP metabolite quinolinic acid (QUIN) has been suggested to be involved in the pathogenesis of HE. LÄS MER
