  1. 1. Reactivity of human omental blood vessels. Effects of 5-hydroxytryptamine, substance P and the intravenous anaesthetic propofol

    Författare :Susanna Wallerstedt; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intensivvård; intensive care; Anaesthesiology; endothelium; calcium; human; hyperpolarization; K channels; nitric oxide; omental artery; omental vein; propofol; receptors; Anestesiologi; serotonin; sympathetic nervous system; substance P;

    Sammanfattning : Regulation of blood flow involves several endogenous substances and mechanisms, and exogenous substances may also affect the blood flow. In the present thesis, human omental blood vessels were investigated in vitro concerning (i) characteristics of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) receptors; (ii) mediators of substance P (SP)-induced relaxation; (iii) direct and indirect (via effects on sympathetic neurotransmission) effects of the intravenous anaesthetic propofol. 2. 2. Vasodilator actions of EDHF and anandamide

    Författare :David Andersson; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; vanilloid receptors; afferent neurons; anandamide; cannabinoids; potassium channels; hyperpolarization; vasodilation; Vascular endothelium; arteries; airways; Pharmacological sciences; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Vasodilator responses to endothelium-derived hyperpolarizing factor (EDHF) and anandamide in isolated arteries were investigated. A combination of the potassium channel blockers charybdotoxin and apamin inhibits EDHF-mediated relaxations. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Anaesthetics and the blood vessel wall. Actions of propofol and sevoflurane on sympathetic and endothelial control of smooth muscle function

    Författare :Karin Thorlacius; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anaesthesiology; intensive care; Anestesiologi; intensivvård; vein.; artery; endothelium; sympathetic nervous system; inhalation agent sevoflurane; Anaesthesia; intravenous propofol;

    Sammanfattning : The anaesthetics we use today dose-dependently decrease the mean arterial pressure partly due to direct or indirect effects on the blood vessels. In the present thesis human omental arteries and veins and rat femoral arteries were investigated in vitro concerning the effects of the intravenous anaesthetic propofol and the volatile anaesthetic sevoflurane on the function of the perivascular sympathetic nerves and the endothelial cells. 4. 4. Influence of metabolic disturbance on nervous function : clinical and experimental studies

    Författare :Lars Hyllienmark; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The present work consists of clinical and experimental studies and describes some effects of metabolic disturbance on nervous function. It is an electrophysiological examination of both single cells and patients exposed to metabolic insult or disease. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Neuropeptides, 'gaseous' messengers and classic transmitters : electrophysiological and histochemical studies on coexistence and interactions in the nervous system

    Författare :Zhi-Qing David Xu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Dorsal root ganglion; galanin; hippocampus; 5-hydroxytryptamine; locus coeruleus; nerve injury; nitric oxide; noradrenaline.;

    Sammanfattning : The distribution and functional role of neuropeptides were studied, with special reference to galanin (GAL) and the free radical nitric oxide (NO). In developing systems GAL expression was observed already at E14 in trigeminal and dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons and at E15 in sensory epithelia in ear, eye and nose, as well as at E19 during bone formation.
